The result is a wine of exceptional freshness, expressiveness and incomparable elegance.The blend consists of 80 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 8 % Petit Verdot, 6.5 % Cabernet Franc, 5 % Merlot and 0.5 % Malbec. Paserene Marathon 2021

The Paserene Marathon is a wine with character that rightly bears its name: This expressive cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot comes from the renowned boutique winery Paserene, which is known in South Africa for its terroir-driven, precisely vinified wines with a clear signature. The Marathon combines persistence, intensity and elegance - a powerful red wine that contains the best of the Tulbagh region.The grapes come from low-yielding vines that thrive on weathered slate soil in Tulbagh - an area characterized by hot days and cool nights. In addition, lots from Elgin, the coolest wine region in South Africa, and from Franschhoek are vinified, giving the wine aromatic complexity and fresh structure. Fermentation and ageing are carried out with a particular focus on balance and finesse: The Marathon is fermented in small, upright French oak barrels. To avoid over-extraction, the so-called "punch-down" is carried out by hand. Half of the maturation in oak barrels takes place naturally in order to preserve the origin and pure character of the grape varieties. Before release, the wine rests in the bottle for at least six months, which gives it additional harmony and depth.In the glass, the Marathon has a deep, black-violet hue - a visual harbinger of its concentration. Promontory Napa Valley 2018

100 Punkte für den Promontory 2018 vergeben James Suckling und Antonio Galloni. Suckling erkennt im Bouquet Noten von Veilchen und Heidelbeeren mit Nelken und Tannenzapfen, Galloni schreibt von dunklen Früchten, Kies, Gewürzen, Lakritz und Leder.Am Gaumen ist der tief granat-lila farbene Wein trocken, mit mittlerem bis vollem Körper. Er „zeigt feste, exquisit feinkörnige Tannine und eine nahtlose Frische, die die intensiven, knackigen schwarzen Früchte wunderbar umrahmen und klingt lang und mineralisch aus“ (Perroti-Brown). Suckling schreibt von „straffen, nahtlosen Tanninen, wie fein geschliffene Diamanten. Er ist am Ende sehr geschlossen und zurückhaltend. Schwerelos. Braucht viel Zeit zum Öffnen. Ein einzigartiger Wein“. Galloni: „Ein Wein von Größe und Opulenz, der im Jahrgang 2018 jeden Winkel des Gaumens erreicht. Betörende Aromatik und präzise, geschliffene Tannine – so schwer zu erreichen in einem Wein aus Höhenlagen – runden das Ganze stilvoll ab.“Bill Harlan entdeckte die herausragende Lage, auf der die Trauben für den Promontory reifen, in den frühen 1980er-Jahren. Im Seitental des Napa Valley, geprägt von Hunderten Hektar Wald, baut Harlan auf 30 Hektar vor allen Dingen Cabernet Sauvignon an, dazu etwas Cabernet Franc, Malbec und Petit Verdot. Die Höhenlage und vor allen Dingen die außergewöhnliche Komplexität der Böden (wozu auch Schiefer-Gestein gehört) machen den Promontory zu einem einzigartigen Wein.Dass die Macherinnen und Macher des Promontory beim Ausbau dieses „Bordeaux-Blend“ aus den USA wesentlich auf Großholz von Stockinger aus Österreich setzen, macht das Ganze endgültig zu einer Ausnahme-Kreation. Seit 2009, dem ersten auf den Markt gebrachten Jahrgang, gab es in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate für den Promontory im Grunde immer Bewertungen von 97 oder mehr Punkten (einzige Ausnahme: 2011 mit 94+). Der Promontory 2016 erhielt die magischen 100 Punkte.

Der Herbst, die Erntezeit, lies allen Raum um präzise zur richtigen Zeit zu ernten, ohne jeden Druck, so dass eine perfekte Reife gewährleistet werden konnte.Intensive Aromen von Cassis, Schwarzkirsche, Himbeeren, etwas Salbei und Thymian, dunkle Schokolade, Graphit und frischer Tabak verbinden sich mit einem Korb von roten und schwarzen Früchten zu einem extrem harmonischen Gesamtkunstwerk. Die gut gegenbalancierende Säure und ein feines Gerüst von seidigen und geschliffenen Tanninen bilden die Basis, aus der sich ein schier unendlicher Ausklang ergibt.

The wines that Agustin and Valeria Huneeus have been producing since 1989 at their Quintessa winery in Rutherford, in the heart of Napa Valley, could actually be merciless competitors to Opus One, Napa's flagship. But Quintessa is taking a less publicized, quieter approach, so Quintessa still flies "under the radar" in terms of name recognition. Wine connoisseurs benefit from this, as the quality of this grape juice is "outstanding", but the price, compared to Opus One, is not yet.And the 2019 Quintessa has also once again become a wine trouvaille, which was remarkably rated 99/100 points by James Suckling and received the high score of 100/100 points from WineEnthusiast.91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, 2% Carménère and 1% Petit Verdot make up the cuvée, which matured in 60% new French oak for 22 months.The nose shows an incredibly vibrant picture of the elements of flowers, forest, fruit and earth. The multi-layered soils of the Rutherford Bench, characterized by gravel, sand and volcanic rock, formed a vintage that is both powerful and focused. An early budbreak, a moderately temperate summer and the warm phase at the end of the season led to a slow, even development of ripeness, in which concentration and freshness found a rarely achieved balance. The selective block harvest produced grapes that bear the signature of the site with impressive clarity.On the nose, the Quintessa Napa Valley 2022 presents a precise composition of black cherry, cassis and dark wild berries, framed by notes of tobacco, bay leaf, cedar wood and dark chocolate. On the palate, it is structured yet silky, with dense fruit and a striking mineral line reminiscent of graphite, crushed rock and a hint of tar. The fine-grained tannins - a hallmark of Rutherford Bench - lend depth and elegance, while the natural acidity gives the wine length and tension.Vinification is carried out parcel by parcel in order to preserve the characteristics of each individual block. Around 20 days of maceration allow for precise extraction before the cuvée is matured for 22 months in a combination of new French oak, neutral wood and a small amount of terracotta amphorae. This finely tuned maturation gives the wine structure, complexity and an elegant, almost floating harmony. The Rainbow's End Mystical Corner is an expressive red wine cuvée from the Rainbows End Wine Estate family winery in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Vinified with great care and composed of four classic Bordeaux grape varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec - this wine brings the depth and complexity of the terroir to the glass in perfect harmony.The dark soul of the wine is already evident on the nose: aromas of blackcurrant and dark cherries combine with a hint of damp earth - a fragrance reminiscent of cool forest moss and mineral soils. On the palate, the Mystical Corner impresses with a juicy, dense fruit core that is supported by fine, firm tannins. Raka Figurehead 2023

The Raka Figurehead seduces with a multi-layered bouquet of dark fruits such as plum, mulberry and blackcurrant, complemented by earthy notes from the forest floor and a fresh hint of eucalyptus. On the palate, the wine is juicy and full-bodied, supported by aromas of red and black fruits, elegant wood notes and a fine spiciness that lingers on the long finish.This complex cuvée is made from a careful selection of fine grape varieties from the renowned Klein River Ward wine-growing region in South Africa. The grapes were all harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality.In the wine cellar, the grapes were carefully sorted and fermented with pure yeasts. Maceration lasted five days, during which the must was pumped over the skins 3-5 times a day and the cap was punched down to maximize depth of colour and aromatics. After alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation took place, followed by a short resting phase. The red wine then matured for 12 to 14 months in 225-liter French oak barrels before being blended, bottled and labeled.Raka Figurehead is an excellent accompaniment to hearty dishes such as roast beef, lamb and game, as well as mature hard cheeses and mushroom dishes. For an optimal taste experience, we recommend a drinking temperature of 16-18 °C.
