Château Lilian Ladouys Cru Bourgeois Saint-Estèphe 2019

Château Lilian Ladouys 2019 comes from the renowned Saint-Estèphe appellation, one of the most famous wine regions in the Médoc area of Bordeaux. Saint-Estèphe is known for its powerful, tannin-rich wines, which generally have excellent ageing potential and gain complexity over time. The Château Lilian Ladouys vineyard, which not without good reason calls itself the 'Rising Star of Saint-Estèphe', benefits from an outstanding terroir that is ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and smaller proportions of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The 2019 vintage benefited from a mild climate and optimal growth of the grapes, resulting in perfect ripeness and exceptional fruit concentration.

In the glass, Château Lilian Ladouys 2019 is a deep, dark ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose, the wine unfolds a lush, complex aroma spectrum that immediately reveals the typical characteristics of Saint-Estèphe: Aromas of dark berries such as blackcurrants, blackberries and plums combine with spicy notes of cedar, tobacco and pepper. There are also subtle hints of liquorice, smoke and cocoa, which give the wine additional depth.

On the palate, Château Lilian Ladouys 2019 is powerful yet elegant. The tannins are present but fine and well-structured, giving the wine a certain grip without being too heavy or drying. The fruit flavors are juicy and concentrated, with a fine minerality and a remarkable freshness, which the wine shows through the ideal balance of acidity and fruit richness. The finish is long and harmonious, with a hint of oak spice, dark chocolate flavor and a pleasant tobacco note.

The 2019 vintage of Château Lilian Ladouys is widely regarded as exceptional. Critics such as James Suckling have given the wine a score of 93 points and praise its freshness, precise structure and remarkable elegance. Wine Enthusiast and Vinous also highlight the wine, particularly for its complexity and potential for long ageing. With an excellent ageing potential of 15 to 20 years, Château Lilian Ladouys 2019 is one of the wines from Saint-Estèphe that can be drunk well in its youth, but also benefits from longer ageing.

Château Lilian Ladouys 2019 is an impressive Bordeaux wine that combines the typical characteristics of the Saint-Estèphe appellation: power, depth and elegance. The wine is an excellent example of the qualities of this region and offers a perfect balance of fruit, structure and spice. With its long ageing potential and its already high enjoyment value, it is an excellent choice for wine connoisseurs and collectors alike.

Product recommendation

Chateau Lilian Ladouys Cru Bourgeois 2018
André Kunz: 18/20 Punkte; Suckling: 94/100 Punkte; Jane Anson 93/100 Punkte.

Château La Commanderie Saint-Estèphe Cru Bourgeois AOC
The Château La Commanderie is a cuvée made of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot. The grapes for this classical Saint-Estèphe, in the Cru Bourgeois range, come from vines that are more than 30 years old. The wine matured for 12 months in French oak casks. The vines for the 2017 La Commanderie grew in the highest vineyards with gravel soils located in the village of Saint-Estèphe. The wine is a typical example of this outstanding vintage in the Bordeaux region. It is already very enjoyable but will further improve over the next 8-10 years. The Château La Commanderie is beguiling on the nose, offering lovely, spicy aromas and fragrances of red and dark berries, cherries, pepper and polish. On the palate, it has an impressive abundance of fruit and silky, very well integrated tannins and a lovely long finish, showing subtle hints of mint and herbs. This charming Saint-Estèphe goes beautifully with beef, steaks, lamb, game and various cheeses. We recommend decanting the wine 1-2 hours before drinking it.

Phéan Ségur has been at the top of the Saint Estéphe appellation, the northernmost wine-growing commune in the Médoc, for years. The wines here are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, very terroir-oriented and absolute marathon runners. A good Saint Estèphe should always be left to mature for at least 10 years before enjoying it.2019 was also a brilliant vintage in Saint Estèphe, resulting in an equally great grape juice.56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon found their way into the cuvée, which impresses with its very deep and multi-dimensional bouquet. Lots of dark berries, precious woods, cassis, coffee and chocolate. Very dense but elegant and well-structured on the palate with a very long finish. This Phelan Ségur will be ready to drink from around 2026, but will then have a very long life ahead of it.René Gabriel: 18/20 pointsJames Suckling: 95-96 pointsRobert Parker: 93-95 points

Les Pagodes de Cos 2018
Les Pagodes de Cos is the second wine from the renowned Château Cos d'Estournel in Saint-Estèphe, which, together with Château Montrose, has been at the top of the appellation for years. The grapes for "The Pagodas" from Cos - and the château, which resembles an Indian temple, really does have some - come from selected plots on the estate and give the wine its own personality. This is somewhat more accessible and perhaps a little less complex than the Grand Vin, but it is a pleasure to drink with its velvety texture, freshness and beautiful fruit.54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot give the wine its attractive, mineral and rather soft character. The emphasis here is clearly more on the fruit and an earlier drinking pleasure than with its big brother, which is a marathon runner and takes a long time to reach drinking maturity.Great black berry fruit, some coffee and tobacco on the nose. Round on the palate with a very beautiful, elegant structure. The tannins are well integrated and the finish is long and lingering.

Château Labégorce Margaux AOC 2019
Consisting of 46% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, Château Labégorce is a model wine from the Margaux appellation with a great price-performance ratio. 2019 was a particularly good year on the left bank of the Gironde, enabling this vineyard, located on the northern edge of Margaux, to produce an exceptional grape juice of great precision and intensity. The 2019 Labégorce was matured in French oak, 40% of which was new barrels. Lots of blackcurrant, dark fruit, tobacco, coffee beans, dark cherry, chocolate, menthol, liquorice and beautiful roasted aromas create a harmonious aromatic picture, supported by fine and polished tannins. The typical Margaux finesse shines through here too, with a good balance of acidity and silky texture."A lot of Margaux for the money" could be the headline for this grape juice, which can also be enjoyed after 1-2 hours of decanting, but whose actual drinking maturity will begin in 2024.Jane Anson: 92/100Suckling: 91-92/100Gabriel (Kunz): 18/20

Spier Creative Block 8
The Spier Creative Block 8 from the traditional Spier winery is an expressive cuvée from South Africa that combines eight grape varieties in perfect harmony: Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Cinsaut, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The grapes come from vineyards in the Coastal Region, which grow on weathered slate and granite with a loamy subsoil. These soils store water optimally and, together with the cooling influence of the nearby Atlantic, ensure slow maturation and a high concentration of aromas. In the glass, the wine is a deep ruby red with a youthful glow. Intense aromas of black cherries, blackberries, dark chocolate and fine vanilla unfold on the nose. On the palate, it is dense and soft, characterized by juicy wild berries and a hint of dried cranberries. The structure is balanced, the mouthfeel silky and the finish long, with a fine, dry tannin.Vinification is carried out with the utmost care: each grape variety is harvested by hand, fermented separately and aged for 16 months in 300-liter French oak barrels (30% new wood, 40% second passage, 30% third passage). After careful selection and blending, the cuvée matures for a further 2 months to complete its harmony. The Spier Creative Block 8 is a versatile food companion and goes perfectly with Moroccan-spiced, braised lamb shank with root vegetables and a hint of truffle oil or with moussaka with roasted coriander. This red wine is best enjoyed at a drinking temperature of 16-18 °C.
