Dieses Château aus der berühmten Appellation Saint Julien im Médoc ist bis heute im Familienbesitz und produziert Jahr für Jahr einen der besten Weine der Region.

2020 war ein sehr guter Jahrgang in einer Reihe von Ausnahmejahrgängen (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019) und knüpft nahtlos an die Erfolge dieser Weine an.

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot und 5% Cabernet Franc stellen die Assemblage dieses Cru Bourgeois.

Noch etwas verschlossen, ist hier viel Frucht und Beerigkeit vorhanden; dazu Tabak, Rauch, Grafit, Brombeeren, Cassis und Veilchen. Sehr klassischer Saint Julien-Gaumen, der sich zwischen Pauillac Power und Struktur und Eleganz einpendelt. Deutliche, saftige Tannine, die aber noch schmelziger werden. Weine vom Château Gloria haben ein gutes Alterungspotential und brauchen etwas Geduld. Der Abgang ist lang und aromatisch.

Trinkreif ab voraussichtlich 2027, dann aber mit einer "Mindestlaufzeit" von einem Vierteljahrhundert.

Winespectator: 93-96/100 Punkte; James Suckling: 94/100 Punkte; René Gabriel: 17/20 Punkte (mit Aussicht auf mehr).

The Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley embodies the pursuit of quality and terroir expression with which the traditional Joseph Phelps winery was founded by Joe Phelps over 30 years ago. From the vine to the bottle, the fruit of several outstanding Napa vineyards unfolds with careful processing and uncompromising winemaking craftsmanship.The cuvée is based on around 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by proportions of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Merlot. The nose reveals intense aromas of black cherry, cassis and pomegranate, accompanied by cedar wood spices and a fine coconut note from the barrel ageing. On the palate, the wine develops juicy stewed fruit and blackberry flavors, embedded in supple tannins and an elegant, lingering finish.Ageing in French oak (partly American) gives the wine structure and depth without losing its freshness and origin.
