The Benguela Cove Vinography Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Walker Bay region in South Africa, which is known for its temperate, cool climate. The vineyards lie on the shores of a lagoon that stretches out to the cold Atlantic Ocean. The foliage is tended with the utmost care so that the grapes can enjoy the cool afternoon sun.This is a confident Cabernet Sauvignon with the typical aromas of blackcurrant, dried herbs, fynbos, salty licorice and a hint of leather. A seamless balance between fruit and acidity, underpinned by polished tannins. Ripe red fruits on the nose, which continue on the palate. Sweet notes of violets and a hint of dried vanilla pods with nuances of tobacco and dried tomato leaves add to the complexity of this elegant wine. The Beyerskloof Eerste Ry Cabernet Sauvignon is an outstanding red wine from the prestigious Beyerskloof Winery in Stellenbosch, South Africa. "Eerste Ry" means "first row" and thus describes the type of grapes that come from the first plantings on the winery. Eerste Ry symbolically refers to the oldest vineyards.On the nose, the Beyerskloof Eerste Ry Cabernet Sauvignon impresses with a complex bouquet of dark fruits such as blackcurrants, cassis and blackberries. Beyerskloof and Pinotage are the perfect combination in South Africa. Anri Truter, owner and winemaker at Beyerskloof, has long been known as South Africa's Mister Pinotage. Few devote themselves to this grape variety with such dedication.The Beyerskloof Pinotage Reserve was aged for 14 months in French oak. 10% of the wine was matured in new barrels and the rest in second and third-fill barrels. Intense red colour with opulent red fruit flavours and hints of pepper. A silky full bodied texture with soft tannins and integrated wood.The fruit is predominantly sourced in Malmesbury, with a small portion of Wellington fruit also used. Certain parcels are naturally fermented, but most are inoculated with selected Rhone strains. About a third remains unoaked, the balance is matured in old French barriques and on French oak staves.

The Boekenhoutskloof Syrah (Shiraz) offers a wonderful blend of fruit and spice on the nose. Notes of ripe, dark plums, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves come together here, wonderfully rounded off by nuances of white pepper and dark chocolate. On the palate, this red wine from South Africa is immediately very intense and full, with a sweetish spiciness. The Boekenhoutskloof Chocolate Block is a blend of predominantly Syrah (Shiraz) and smaller proportions of Grenache Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Viognier. Marc Kent, winemaker from Boekenhoutskloof in South Africa, created a wine with rich aromas of black cherries, cardamom, sweet tobacco, espresso and a hint of perfume with his "Chocolate Block". The dark fruit character is complemented by gentle nuances of ripe plums, violets, black olives, cloves and licorice. This is complemented by finely integrated cocoa-powdered tannins. On the palate, it offers a very good structure, refreshing acidity and a smoky minerality. John Platter awarded this noble and full-bodied wine 4.5 stars.The dry red wine matured for 16 months in French oak barrels. Vielschichtige, intensiv fruchtige Noten von getrockneten Kirschen, dunklen Pflaumen und Datteln prägen das Bouquet des Bouchard Finlayson Hannibal 2020. Der faszinierend komplexe Duftstrauß bietet darüber hinaus Noten von Tabak und grünen Oliven, dazu Nuancen von Trüffel und Menthol.In John Platter’s Wine Guide erhält dieser Rotwein aus Südafrika 93 Punkte. Kritikerin Cathy Marston erkennt Kirschfrucht, Leder, Wild und Würze.Auch am Gaumen hinterlässt dieser ungewöhnliche Blend aus 41% Sangiovese, 26% Nebbiolo, 5% Barbera, 14% Shiraz, 11% Pinot Noir, 3% Mourvedre Eindruck. Der trockene Rotwein aus dem Hemel-en-Aarde-Tal, unweit der Walker Bay im Südatlantik, hat einen mittleren Körper und zugleich eine wunderbar anregende Säure. Die geschmeidigen Tannine sind gekonnt eingebunden. Das Finale wird von einer schönen Würze getragen und klingt noch lange nach. Noch bis 2032 ist der Bouchard Finlayson Hannibal ein Hochgenuss.Die einzelnen, akribisch gelesenen Rebsorten wurden separat in französischen Eichenfässern ausgebaut, in denen sie fast ein Jahr lang heranreiften. Dabei kamen zu fast einem Viertel neue Fässer zum Einsatz. Nach zahlreichen Tastings kreierte Bouchard Finlayson dann einen finalen Blend, der noch einige Monate nachreifte, bevor er in Flaschen abgefüllt wurde.Die Namensgebung leitet sich etwas speziell her: Da in diesem südafrikanischen Rotwein prägende Rebsorten des Weinbaus in Italien und Frankreich assembliert werden, soll der Name Hannibal an den karthagischen Feldherrn erinnern. Er überquerte in einem legendären Feldzug mit einer größeren Zahl an Elefanten im dritten Jahrhundert vor Christus die Alpen von Frankreich nach Italien, um einem römischen Angriff zuvorzukommen (Zweiter Punischer Krieg).Der Bouchard Finlayson Hannibal 2020 ist eine herausragende Komposition des südafrikanischen Weinbaus. Der rubinrote Wein zeichnet sich auch dadurch aus, dass er ein vielseitig einsetzbarer Essensbegleiter ist. Entdecken Sie ihn zum Beispiel zur indischen Küche oder zu Ziegenkäse auf Brioche-Toast. Wer etwas Außergewöhnliches probieren möchte: Auch zu Fisch Vindaye, typisch für die Küche in Mauritius, ist der Rotwein aus der Provinz Westkap ein idealer Begleiter.
