CELLAR TREATMENT
The grapes were picked at 23 °B. Pumped over during fermentation to extract optimum colour and flavour. Malolactic fermentation was completed prior to 24 months maturation in new small barrels, mainly American, small portion French.

TASTING NOTES
The best selling red wine in the range. Has vanilla-spiced ripe berry and plum flavours, backed by a well-textured tannin structure. This rounded, generous wine is a traditional South African variety. Has 4+ years ageing potential. Enjoy with venison and game birds, or well-matured meat.

Bergsig Estate liegt im Tal des Breede River gut 100 Kilometer östlich von Kapstadt und befindet sich bereits in sechster Generation im Besitz der gastfreundlichen Winzerfamilie Lategan. Ihr jüngster Spross De Wet Lategan hat es sich auf die Fahnen geschrieben, die Gewächse des Estates nicht nur besonders gut, sondern noch jederzeit erschwinglich zu machen. „De Wet macht eine bewundernswerte Serie von wirklich preiswerten Weinen, die von Jahrgang zu Jahrgang noch besser werden“, bescheinigt ihm Südafrikas bedeutendster Weinkritiker John Platter. Und in der Tat dürfte es ausgesprochen schwierig sein, derart gute südafrikanische Estate-Weine zu günstigeren Preisen zu bekommen.

The red wine from the venerable Windmeul cooperative was aged for 12 months in second- and third-fill French oak casks. Vinified ready to drink from the start for immediate enjoyment. We recommend 18 °C as the ideal drinking temperature.The Barista Pinotage from the Val De Vie vineyard is made from 100% Pinotage grapes from the Robertson region. The grapes were picked at optimum ripeness in mid-February and divided into different batches and treated in different ways.Certain batches were treated by short heating to optimize color and then returned to the skins for alcoholic fermentation. Other batches were pasteurized and immediately fermented on oak to achieve the dark, rich coffee flavors. Still other batches were fermented conventionally on the skins and pumped over several times during alcoholic fermentation and racked into French oak to complete fermentation. All batches were stabilized by malolactic fermentation in French oak.

By planting the pinotage grapes in rows in a north-easterly direction the grapes are not in the bright afternoon sun. This prevents them to develop a roasted and spicy aroma. And it helps even more that the sea is near, only 8 kilometer away. By low proceeds of 50 hectoliters per hectare the grapes get lots of intensity and the wine has enough strength and depth to let a part of it mature in wooden barrels. Fermentation at no more than 25 ° C ensures plenty of fruit. 40% of the wine matured in French oak barrels or American origin, making this a pleasant vanilla tasty Pinotage without sacrificing the fruit.
