The Delheim winery in South Africa presents the Iconoclast Cape Blend, a unique, bold wine that honors the pioneering work of its creator. This blend breaks with classic Cape Blend conventions by using Shiraz as the leading grape variety - a special feature that reflects the innovative spirit of the winery and its creator's preference for Shiraz.Iconoclast combines four grape varieties to create a harmonious, complex cuvée. Der Delheim Vera Cruz Pinotage hat ein tiefes Pupurrot. In der Nase zeigen sich bei dem Rotwein Noten von reifen dunklen Früchten, integrierte Vanille- und Toffeenoten und ein Hauch von Gewürzen. Am Gaumen ist der Wein aus Südafrika saftig, voll und rund mit einem langen Abgang.Dieser Pinotage stammt von einer Einzellage mit unbewässerten bush-vines, also Reben ohne Drahtrahmenerziehung. Natürlicher Weingenuss par excellence. Die Trauben für den reinsortigen Pinotage aus Stellenbosch in Südafrika wurden akribisch gelesen; es wurden nur die besten Trauben bester Qualität geerntet. Die erste Sortierung wurde bereits in den Weinbergen vorgenommen. Der Delheim Vera Cruz Pinotage reifte für 18 Monate in 300L und 500L Fässern aus französischer Eiche, wobei zu 35% neue Fässer zum Einsatz kamen.

Dickens Tale of Three Wines 2018

Lionel Dickens als Winemaker steht hinter diesem Projekt. Als südafrikanisches Kind der Weinbranche hatte er schon immer eine Leidenschaft für Natur und Landschaft seines Landes. Nachdem er viele Jahre in verschiedenen Bereichen der Weinindustrie gearbeitet hat, hat Lionel Dickens damit begonnen, im Weinkeller ein neues Kapitel zu schreiben. Seine Weine sind von der klassischen Tradition inspiriert – mit minimalem Eingriff hergestellt, um Ausgewogenheit, Eleganz und vor allem eine interessante Herkunftsgeschichte widerzuspiegeln.Für uns sind die Weine von Dickens „die“ Entdeckung des Jahres 2023 aus Südafrika.Der Dickens Tale of Three Wines besteht zu 98% aus Shiraz und zu jeweils 1% aus Mouverdre und Viognier. Die Trauben stammen zu 99% aus der südafrikanischen Region Franschhoek. Diese mehrdimensionale und komplexe rote Mischung zeigt vielschichtige Aromen von roten Beerenfrüchten, Veilchen und Gewürzen. Am Gaumen verbinden sich die Aromen von Beeren und Veilchen mit weichen, kalkhaltigen Tanninen zu einem konzentrierten und vollmundigen Wein. Der Wein reifte 18 Monate in französischen Eichenfässern.Der Dickens Tale of Three Wines kann sowohl pur als auch als Essensbegleiter genossen werden. This composition of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as smaller proportions of Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc has a complex aroma of blackberry, cherry and cassis as well as eucalyptus, licorice and notes of dark chocolate, cedar wood, fine oak wood aromas and vanilla. On the palate, the Diemersdal Private Collection is elegant and powerful, with great structure. Soft, sweetish tannins and the skillfully integrated wood note give the wine additional character.John Platter's Wine Guide gives this Diemersdal creation 4.5 out of a possible 5 stars.
