The Aaldering Shiraz is a wine full of elegance and complexity. It is redolent of dark cherries, raspberries, cloves and white pepper. This Shiraz from the Devon Valley in the Stellenbosch region was aged for more than 20 months in French oak casks, of which only 15% were new barrels, giving the Shiraz grapes as much scope as possible to develop their great elegance. The pure varietal Cabernet Sauvignon from the Alto Wine Estate located in the Stellenbosch region is a lovely example of South African viticulture. Winemaker Bertho van der Westhuizen selects only the best grapes to produce this wine. The vines grow on soils consisting of decomposed granite, while the subsoils are clay, giving the Alto Cabernet Sauvignon its finesse and intense character.The wine is a deep dark red in colour, indicating its power. The Alto Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromas of dark fruit, cedar wood and spices in its spicy bouquet, along with mineral notes and nuances of dark chocolate. Alto Estate Blend 2018

Der Blend aus 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Cabernet Franc, 18% Merlot und 3% Petit Verdot duftet nach roten und dunklen Früchten (Johannisbeeren), erdigen Noten sowie nach Fynbos, den für Südafrika typischen Gewächsen. Weinkritiker Greg de Bruyn beschreibt das Bouquet in Platter’s Wine Guide so: „Waldboden-Erdigkeit, jodhaltige Mineralität und saftige Cassis-Frucht, durchzogen von Tabakwürze.“Am Gaumen ist der Rotwein aus der Stellenbosch-Region trocken und vielschichtig, mit großer Konzentration und Frische. Die schöne Mineralität und die aromatische Tiefe (dunkle Beeren im Vordergrund) runden das Geschmackserlebnis ab. „Geschmeidig und rund nach 18 Monaten in größtenteils neuem Eichenholz“, urteilt auch de Bruyn. Der warme Jahrgang 2018 brachte Trauben mit sehr konzentrierten Aromen hervor. The Alto Rouge consists of 5 grape varieties: Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The grapes for this wine come from north- and northwest-facing vineyards located on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains. Thus, the vines are cooled by a fresh breeze in the afternoon, supporting the wine’s elegance and balance. The Alto Rouge is a deep ruby-red in the glass. On the nose, aromas of red fruit are predominant, along with hints of chocolate and light notes of woodchips. This cuvée is distinguished by its soft tannins and wonderful fruit aromas. Overall, this is a wine with style, lots of complexity and a high ageing potential. Winemaker Bertho van de Westhuizen recommends enjoying the Alto Rouge with game birds and tender red meat.

Der Wein hat feste Tannine, wird aber mit der Fülle reifer Früchte zu einem nahezu nahtlosen, wunderbar eleganten Topwein. Der Albertus Viljoen Red Bismarck Wein hat einen langanhaltenden, unvergesslichen Abgang. Diese hat ein mediterranes Mikroklima mit einer reichen Bodenvielfalt und Wasser vom lebensspendenden Breede River. Daraus entsteht ein bemerkenswerter Wein mit einzigartigem Charakter und Komplexität. Der Alvi´s Drift Verreaux Pinotage hat eine dunkle, rubinartige Farbe und besticht durch Aromen von Vanille, Süßholzwurzel und einem Hauch von Gewürzen, ergänzt durch reiche Noten von Brombeeren, Schwarzkirschen und Pflaumen. Anthonij Rupert Syrah 2017

The Anthonij Rupert Syrah comes from strictly selected vines from the Franschhoek Valley in South Africa. A pre-selection is made as early as the hand-picking stage. Only the best grapes find their way into the wine. Both the fermentation and the subsequent maturation, which lasts an average of 21 months, take place in French oak barrels. The Anthonij Rupert Syrah was then bottled unfiltered and matured for a further 2 years. The red wine has a wonderful aroma of violets, plums, raspberries and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is amazingly complex but extremely multi-faceted. Beautiful fruity notes are in harmony with spicy notes and a gently integrated tannin structure. The finish is also juicy, balanced and convincingly long.For a long evening in front of the fireplace or as an accompaniment to a festive meal, you will hardly find anything better. Open the wine at least two hours before drinking and give it some time to develop in the glass.
