Der Boekenhoutskloof The Chocolate Block ist ein unverwechselbares Geschmackserlebnis aus Südafrika. In der Nase vereint dieser trockene Blend aus knapp drei Viertel Syrah (Shiraz) sowie kleineren Anteilen von Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache Noir, Cinsault und Viognier vielfältige Noten: Intensive Kirschnoten, Kardamom, süßer Tabak, Espresso und ein Hauch von Parfüm kommen hier zusammen. Am Gaumen vollmundig und rund, mit sehr guter Struktur, erfrischender Säure, einer rauchigen Mineralität und Aromen von schwarzen Oliven, sowie Lakritz und reifen Pflaumen.

Für 16 Monate wurde der vegane Wein aus der Region Franschhoek im Eichenholz ausgebaut, wobei zu 10% neue Fässer zum Einsatz kamen.

Der außergewöhnliche Rotwein passt ideal zu Pasta und Pizza, dunklem Fleisch (gebraten oder gegrillt), zu Geräuchertem oder zu mittelkräftigem Käse oder Hartkäse bei einer Trinktemperatur von 18 °C.

Das Weingut Boekenhoutskloof und die Landschaft wirken französisch. Es liegt in Franschhoek und ist eines der ältesten Weingüter mit hugenottischen Wurzeln. Auch die Weine erinnern an Frankreich, weil der Winzer Marc Kent einmal pro Jahr Frankreich besucht, um sich neu inspirieren zu lassen.

Auf 20 ha Rebfläche werden zu 25% Weißwein (Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon) und zu 75% Rotweine (Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc) angebaut. Die Temperatur ist im Jahresdurchschnitt durch den Seewind aus Südosten etwas kühler. Die Art der Böden auf dem Gut sind unterschiedlich: von tiefen Schwemmböden am Ufer des Flusses bis zu harten Lehmböden und verwittertem Granit.

A South African taste experience of intense, rich coffee and chocolate aromas with nuances of ripe mulberries, plums and cherries.This dry red wine is also the perfect accompaniment to food. It pairs very well with dark meat, creamy casseroles and even intense desserts. Also a great accompaniment to blue cheese or Belgian chocolate. Vinified ready to drink from the start for immediate enjoyment. We recommend 18 °C as the ideal drinking temperature.The Barista Pinotage from the Val De Vie vineyard is made from 100% Pinotage grapes from the Robertson region. The grapes were picked at optimum ripeness in mid-February and divided into different batches and treated in different ways.Certain batches were treated by short heating to optimize color and then returned to the skins for alcoholic fermentation. Other batches were pasteurized and immediately fermented on oak to achieve the dark, rich coffee flavors. Still other batches were fermented conventionally on the skins and pumped over several times during alcoholic fermentation and racked into French oak to complete fermentation. All batches were stabilized by malolactic fermentation in French oak.
