Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage

‘Diesel Pinotage’ is certainly an unusual name for a wine. However, it is easily explained once you know the history behind it. ‘Diesel’ was the name of the dog of Beyer Truters, the owner of the Beyerskloof estate. The dog was his beloved, loyal and constant companion. Diesel was always at his side, whether in the vineyards, in the cellar or in his office, so it was only logical that Beyers Truters named his best wine after his ‘best’ friend.The grapes for the Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage come from bush vines that are cultivated without wire trellis training systems. In South Africa, the bush vine method is often used specifically for Pinotage. The fermentation took place in open barrels for 5 days at an average temperature of 78.8° F, while the must was pressed down every 2 hours. Subsequently, the malolactic fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks. Afterwards, the wine matured for 18 months in new French oak casks. Only 20 out of a total of 300 filled barrels were chosen to produce the Diesel Pinotage.The Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage is a deep purple in the glass. Its bouquet is characterised by complex aromas of blackberries and dark fruit, complemented by elegant notes of cedar wood. On the palate, the wine shows a fine but complex structure of black and red fruit. This Pinotage is truly a superb wine, captivating with its outstanding balance between fruit and wood. This wine has an outstanding ageing potential and it is expected to be a genuine delight over the next 10 years or even longer.It is an ideal accompaniment to spicy Indian cuisine or a well-matured rump steak. The Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage is arguably one of the best Pinotage wines from the Cape.

De Toren Fusion V

Wenn man einen der absoluten Spitzenweine aus Südafrika probieren möchte, kommt man am De Toren Fusion V nicht vorbei. Die V steht dabei für die 5 im Wein verwendeten Bordeaux Rebsorten. Die Qualität lässt sich mit den großen Weinen aus dem Bordeaux durchaus messen. Nach der Handlese und Selektion der Trauben schloss sich eine lange schonende Gärung an. Die Reifung fand über einen Zeitraum von 12 Monaten in zu 50% neuen und 50% Fässern zweiter Füllung statt. Dabei kamen Fässer von 225 Litern Größe zum Einsatz. (90% französische und 10% amerikanische) Im Glas ein klares Violett mit leichtem Funkeln. Die Nase ist geprägt von Blaubeere, Zeder, Schwarzkirsche, Bitterschokolade und einem Hauch Fennel. Am Gaumen offeriert der De Toren Fusion V eine seidige Fülle mit einem Hauch süßer Frucht. Das Gesamtpaket aus wohl integrierten Tanninen, lang anhaltender Tiefe, fester Struktur und Mineralität machen diesen Wein zu einem Spitzenprodukt.

This Sauvignon Blanc from the Boekenhoutskloof estate shows a wonderfully fruity bouquet hinting of pineapple, papaya, kiwi fruit and apple blossoms. On the palate, this white wine from the Franschhoek valley is harmonious and round, with a lovely fullness and wonderful acidity. The finish shows notes of fresh apples. The vintage 2016 was dry. Nevertheless, with this Sauvignon Blanc the Boekenhoutskloof winery has once again succeeded in creating a wine that satisfies the most discerning tastes. Lively pear, citrus zest, freshly cut apple and blossom on the nose with attractive, wet stone, spiced oak and nutty undertones. An impressive structure underneath a lovely combination of stonefruit amongst others. The 13 months of lees contact lead to a rich, textured, broad and rounded mouth feel, yet appealingly fresh from the core acidity. With the lanolin and other tertiary flavours that will develop even more, this wine will be one of the most complex and balanced ever to be produced from these 106 year old vines.7% Sauvignon Blanc was blended in to enhance the vibrance and freshness.
