The Pio Cesare Barbera d'Alba DOC is a very classic, pure Barbera from Piedmont, some of whose grapes come from plots where the grapes for the famous Barolo also grow. This gives the Barbera grape, from which 100% of this dry red wine is made, a special strength and depth in addition to the tangy fruit and lively, fresh acidity. The fermentation of the Pio Cesare Barbera d'Alba DOC takes around 10 to 12 days at a temperature of around 25 degrees in order to preserve the fruit in the dry red wine. It then matures for two years in French oak, partly in barriques and partly in larger barrels.Pleasant fruit on the nose, deliciously ripe black cherries, with a hint of vanilla, broad and seductive.Very pure and powerful on the palate, sweet cherries and vanilla, some chocolate, smoky, broad and juicy, with beautiful length and complexity.A delicious Barbera with duck breast, confit de canard, great with game and hare, also enjoyable in food-pairing with hard cheese.

Die Nebbiolo-Trauben für diesen klassischen Barolo stammen von den schönsten Hängen im Piemont. Der Pio Cesare Dolcetto d'Alba DOC ist ein reinrassiger, 100% Dolcetto vom italienischen Weingut Pio Cesare im Piemont. Die Dolcetto wurde eine Zeit lang unterbewertet, aber ihre Popularität steigt in den letzten Jahren aus gutem Grund. Sie ist wie Barbera und Nebbiolo eine echte Traube aus der Region, die wunderbar fruchtige, saftige und süffige Weine hervorbringen kann. Dolcetto reift etwas leichter und schneller, daher wird sie an etwas kühleren Stellen an den Ost- und Nordosthängen gepflanzt.Der Dolcetto für den Pio Cesare Dolcetto d´Alba DOC stammt aus den Gemeinden Treiso, Monforte d'Alba, Serralunga und Madonna Como, also teils aus dem Barolo-Gebiet und teils aus dem Barbaresco-Gebiet. Seine Gärung erfolgt sechs bis acht Tage lang ausschließlich im Stahltank, um seine Frische und Frucht noch zu unterstreichen.Dieser Rotwein überzeugt durch seine köstliche Frucht, Kirsch-, Heidel- und Brombeerenaromen und Veilchennoten und ist verführerisch und saftig am Gaumen mit feiner Säure.Toll in Kombination mit Pilzrisotto, einer Spaghetti Carbonara, passt er auch gut zu leichten Fleischgerichten und Weichkäse.

Pio Cesare Nebbiolo Langhe DOC 2022

The Nebbiolo Lange DOC from the Italian winery Pio Cesare in Piedmont is a pure Nebbiolo. The world-famous Barolo and Barbaresco wines are also made from this well-known grape. However, if the latter red representatives of northern Italy are too weighty for you, the Nebbiolo Langhe DOC is just the thing. Although it is similar to its big brothers, it is more of a lighter and dancier version. One of the reasons for this is that the grapes for the Pio Cesare Nebbiolo Langhe DOC are harvested a little earlier and fermentation on the skins only takes around 12-13 days.The result is a dry red wine that is a lighter version of the great wines, but still has a clear personality, with the typical character of Nebbiolo, but in a more accessible form, with plenty of finesse and smoothness.This Nebbiolo is deliciously smoky and spicy on the nose, with hints of cherry fruit, floral, vanilla and bay leaf.Soft and supple on the palate, powerful at the same time, a real personality, cherries, vanilla, cream, good tannins and a fresh acidity on the finish.The Nebbiolo Langhe DOC is an excellent accompaniment to meat-based main courses full of character, salads, cold starters or lightly matured cheeses.

Awarded 94 points by James Suckling, 93 points in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 95 points in Decanter, and 92 points in WineEnthusiast, the Brunello is a feast for the senses and another outstanding example of why Poggio Antico has been considered an iconic winemaker in Tuscany for decades.The Sangiovese bouquet is fascinatingly intense and multi-faceted. "Aromas reminiscent of undergrowth, rubbed botanical herbs, wild roses and wild berries pour from the glass," according to Kerin O'Keefe in the Wine Enthusiast, while James Suckling writes of a pure cherry, berry and floral character with underlying notes of cedar. Decanter says, "Smells quite savory of coffee, dark chocolate, bitter orange peel and some Christmas spices, cloves and cinnamon," adding that the savory spice is in the foreground.On the palate, this fine red wine from Tuscany is terrifically elegant, with a medium to full body. In addition, there is a wonderful depth and variety of aromas. The elegant palate offers dried cherries, licorice and ground cloves in a complex interplay with fine-grained tannins, as O'Keefe writes. The Wine Advocate highlights lots of fresh fruit and the soft and supple tannins, while Decanter, in turn, recognizes tension and precision on the palate, well-integrated tannins and a lovely sweetness at the start. The long, aromatic finish completes this taste experience.This single-varietal Sangiovese from the 30 hectares of picturesquely situated sites of Poggio Antico is outstanding. A major contributing factor is that the grapes ripen about 500 meters above sea level on chalky, stony soils. The harvest yields are deliberately severely limited. The Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino is aged for 30 months in Slavonian oak barrels, followed by another 18 months in the bottle.A superb classic of Italian winemaking. Enjoy the Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino with red meat or game dishes, preferably with mushrooms. A strong cheese is also an excellent companion for the Brunello - we recommend, for example, a Pecorino from Tuscany or a Toma Piemontese. Tip: Enjoy this Brunello after 2024.

The Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is an outstanding red wine from Tuscany, which is undoubtedly one of the truly great creations of Italian winemaking. Ninety-six points from James Suckling (cherries, orange peel and sandalwood) and from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (dark fruit, cherry, leather, spices and tar) complete the series of top ratings for the Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016.On the palate, the Brunello is fresh, juicy and powerful. The tannins are integrated in a fascinating harmony. Connoisseurs can also look forward to the fine minerality and noticeable, lovely structure of this Tuscan Sangiovese.The Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016 was aged for 30 months in French and Slavonian oak, and subsequently for a further 30 months in the bottle. In short, it is an exceptional wine that has yet to reveal its full potential. Our tip: Wait until 2025 to enjoy this premium red wine. This Brunello will remain a source of joy until the early 2040s. The Decanter describes it as “gorgeously sexy and seductive”.
