If you want to taste one of the absolute top wines from South Africa, De Toren Fusion V is a must. The V stands for the 5 Bordeaux grape varieties used in the wine. The quality is on a par with the great wines from Bordeaux.After hand-picking and selecting the grapes, a long, gentle fermentation followed. Maturation took place over a period of 12 months in 50% new and 50% second-fill barrels. Barrels of 225 liters were used. (90% French and 10% American) In the glass a clear violet with a slight sparkle. The nose is characterized by blueberry, cedar, black cherry, dark chocolate and a hint of fennel. On the palate, De Toren Fusion V offers a silky fullness with a hint of sweet fruit. The overall package of well-integrated tannins, long-lasting depth, firm structure and minerality makes this wine a top product.Pair it with grilled or roasted lamb with garlic and rosemary.

Delheim Grand Reserve 2015

In contrast to the 2014 vintage, the Delheim Grand Reserve 2015 consists of significantly higher percentages of Merlot. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, which are predominant in this wine, come from three different vineyards located in the Stellenbosch region. The Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes grow on vineyards located on the slopes of the Klapmutskop Mountains. The vines for this wonderful cuvée are at least 10 years old, and some of them are more than 20 years old, ensuring exceptional depth and structure of the wine. To ensure optimal pre-selection, all the grapes were picked by hand.During the fermentation, the grapes were stirred three times a day to achieve maximal aroma extraction from the grapes. The whole process was carried out at controlled temperatures. After the three grape varieties were aged for 16 months, the maturity of the Merlot was decisive for the blending and therefore for the mixture of the final wine. Finally, the Delheim Grand Reserve matured for another 4 months in used 300-litre oak casks.On the nose, the brilliant, dark ruby-red wine pampers your senses with aromas of mint, cassis and truffle, rounded off by fine nuances of red berries. On the palate, the wine shows wonderful fruity notes which are preserved despite the wine’s immense fullness and power. The Delheim Grand Reserve 2015 goes beautifully with any luxurious meal and is also an ideal accompaniment to tangy cheeses.

In recent years, the Delheim Grand Reserve, the flagship wine from the top South African winery Delheim, has been a guarantor of top ratings from national and international wine critics. This South African red wine was rated in John Platter's Wine Guide with at least 90 points and 4.5 to 5 stars (out of a maximum of 5). And the 2018 vintage of Delheim Grand Reserve is also the result of exceptional winemaking.On the nose, this composition of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 15% Petit Verdot and 10% Merlot is wonderfully intense and multi-faceted. The juice was fermented in a combination of open-top fermenters and vertical stainless steel tanks. With the Iconoclast Cabernet Franc, the Delheim winery in Simonsberg presents an expressive red wine with a clear origin and unmistakable character. The vines thrive in the Vaaldraai vineyard on weathered granite soils of the Oakleaf profile - a unique combination of soil, slope and altitude of 220 to 260 meters above sea level. These conditions give the wine its depth, structure and elegant spiciness.The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and processed gently. After destemming and light crushing, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by a two-week maceration period to intensify structure and complexity. Malolactic fermentation takes place in tanks before the wine matures for 18 months in French oak barrels. This careful barrel selection results in a balanced, multi-layered wine with elegance and depth.In the glass, the Delheim Iconoclast Cabernet Franc presents itself with an intense, deep dark color. The nose reveals a complex interplay of aromas of dark berries, cassis, herbs and fine spices, underpinned by subtle toasted and woody notes. On the palate, it is structured and full-bodied with velvety tannins, lively acidity and a long, harmonious finish.This dry red wine is an excellent accompaniment to hearty meat dishes such as lamb stew, braised dishes or mature cheese. Delheim Merlot 2019

The grapes for the Delheim Merlot come from vines that are almost 20 years old, located in the Peperboom vineyard. The ‘Peperboom’ (‘pepper plant’ in English) was originally cultivated here. The harvest was carried out in a two-step selection in order to achieve the maximum concentration of tannins and colour. The wine was fermented with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks at temperatures between 77° and 82.4° F. Subsequently, the wine remained in contact with the skins for another 18 days and then aged for 15 months in French oak casks, of which 20% were new barrels. Its bouquet offers noticeable aromas of tobacco, red fruit, cloves and cinnamon. On the palate, the Delheim Merlot is elegant, with a subtle structure and silky tannins. It is full-bodied, showing a remarkable freshness recalling aromas of bilberries and plums. Another three to four years of ageing in the bottle will further enhance the wine’s qualities and contribute to its optimal stage of maturity. The Delheim Merlot is definitely a genuine delight to enjoy with fried chicken or mushroom soup.
