Delaire Graff The Banghoek in Geschenkverpackung

Spier Frans K. Smit Red
Every vintage of Spier Frans K. Smit Red is a work of art. The vines for the blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot all come from the western and north-western slopes of the Helderberg in Stellenbosch. Decomposed granite soils there store water well, which leads to slow maturation and increased mineral complexity. The area also benefits from the cooling effect of the nearby Atlantic Ocean. The winegrowers invest a great deal of time and care in each individual vine. After harvesting by hand and carefully packing the grapes into small 10 kg crates, they are hand-picked, crushed and pumped into a mixture of 500 l barrels and small steel tanks, where the juice remains on the lees for 3 - 6 weeks. The wine is then transferred to small French oak barrels for a maturation period of around 24 months.Winemaker Frans K Smit, after whom the wine is named, selects the best blends from the barrels, which then continue to mature in the barrel for a further 6-8 months. Each barrel of the limited, internationally sought-after red wine is personally made by him.The Spier flagship impresses in the glass with its deep and vibrant ruby red color. On the nose, there are notes of cigar box, berries, cherries and nuances of mint. The Cabernet Franc brings subtle richness, sweet fruit and creaminess to the palate, while the Petit Verdot brings balance and structure. The red wine is complex and dense in structure, with a silky, medium palate and a soft, long finish. The tannins are firm and assertive on the one hand, but also round, soft and elegant. The balance and refined elegance of this blend harmonize well with meat dishes such as rib-eye steaks, roast beef and smoky grilled steaks.

d'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz
The South Australian “The Dead Arm Shiraz” from d'Arenberg is a remarkable wine in many ways. The bouquet is seductive, with earthy notes and flavors of dark fruit, fennel and spicy nuances. With time, notes of sweet berries and forest floor unfold. 18 months this exceptional Shiraz matured in French and American oak barrels. On the palate the wine from the famous growing region of McLaren Vale, 35 kilometres south of Adelaide, is dense and concentrated. Aromas of plum, blackberry, mulberry and black olives as well as hints of pepper and earthy notes give a wonderful taste experience. The tannins are integrated wonderfully. The wine has a looooong finish - a pleasure that never seems to end. Complex and hearty. Dead Arm is a vine disease caused by the fungus Eutypa Lata that randomly affects vineyards all over the world. One half, or an ‘arm’ of the vine slowly becomes reduced to dead wood. Although this results in a lower yield, the grapes on the healthy arm offer an amazing intensity. The Dead Arm Shiraz - an impressive varietal Shiraz..

Thelema "The Mint"
Thelema The Mint comes from the Stellenbosch region in South Africa. The wine has a long tradition and is proven to be one of the best Cabernet Sauvignons in the country. The origin of the "mint" character is attributed to the transfer of air from the eucalyptus trees bordering this particular Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard to the grapes. The outer wax layer of the berries adsorbs eucalyptol, a compound responsible for the aroma, which is released into the air by the trees. It then dissolves on the skins during the fermentation process, inevitably giving the wine a "minty" character that is unique to this vineyard. In the glass, the wine is a deep dark red. The nose is characterized by aromas of ripe red berries, cassis and dark chocolate. On the palate, a hint of mint complements the opulent overall impression. The wine has fine tannins with a long mocha finish.Maturing for 18 months in wooden barrels, with 40% new French oak and 60% older barrels, gives Thelema The Mint depth and longevity. Try this exceptional wine with roast lamb, for example.Make sure you get a few bottles, as the wine is already sold out from the winery.
