The Donier Donatus is a masterful cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, sourced exclusively from the Dornier vineyard on the sun-drenched slopes of Stellenbosch Mountain. The unique combination of red, weathered granite soil and clay-rich soils ensures that the grapes ripen slowly and evenly. The result is a profound wine of impressive concentration and fine elegance.The hand-picked grapes are carefully selected in the cellar and fermented separately. Fermentation takes place in open fermentation vats with pumping over four times a day to ensure optimum extraction while preserving the fruit aromas. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for 18 months in French oak barrels, a third of which are new barrels - this gives the wine a fine spiciness and complexity without masking the freshness. The harmonious blending only takes place after maturation, so that only the best components make it into the bottle.In the glass, Donier Donatus impresses with an intense black-violet color and a multi-faceted aroma of ripe blackcurrant, cassis and blackberry. With the Eikendal Classique, the renowned wine estate from Stellenbosch presents a masterful Bordeaux-style cuvée. The combination of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot produces a complex yet supple red wine of great elegance.The nose is dominated by aromas of blue and black berries, accompanied by earthy notes, fine spice and delicate oak. On the palate, the wine is powerful, precise and balanced. A fresh, lively acidity and fine-grained tannins contribute to the structural depth, while red and black fruits and subtle roasted aromas ensure a lingering taste experience.The grapes come exclusively from the best plots of the Eikendal vineyards on the Helderberg. The vines grow there without artificial irrigation under natural stress conditions - the result: small, highly concentrated berries that produce a powerful yet elegant red wine.The grapes are harvested selectively in three stages of ripeness - from pre-fruit-fresh to fruit-fresh to ripe - which gives the wine a fascinatingly complex spectrum of aromas. A small proportion of whole grapes provides additional freshness and mineral notes. After a particularly long maceration period and natural spontaneous fermentation, the wine is matured for 12 months in 500-liter French oak barrels, whereby untoasted barriques do not mask the fine varietal character.In the glass, the Eikendal Cabernet Franc impresses with intense aromas of dark berries, herbs, fine spices and a hint of graphite. Freemark Abbey ist eine Institution des Weinbaus im kalifornischen Napa Valley. Nicht zuletzt der Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon hat dazu beigetragen, dass die Weine aus dem Napa Valley weltweit zu den herausragenden Kreationen zählen. Auch im Jahrgang 2017 haben die Macherinnen und Macher von Freemark Abbey einen Cabernet Sauvignon komponiert, der von der internationalen Weinkritik gefeiert wird.Der Rotwein aus den USA duftet eindrucksvoll vielschichtig nach Brombeeren, Kirschen und Milchschokolade. Das Bouquet wird darüber hinaus bereichert durch Noten von Zedern und Kräutern der Provence sowie süßlichen Eichennoten.Lisa Perrotti-Brown vergibt in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 92 Punkte für den Freemark Abbey Cabernet. James Suckling vergibt 93 Punkte und findet: „Aromen von Blaubeeren, Johannisbeeren und Blumen folgen einem mittleren bis vollen Körper, festen und seidigen Tanninen und einem köstlichen Abgang. Zeigt einige Haselnuss- und Walnuss-Untertöne. Sehr fein abgestimmt.“Mehr als zwei Jahre reifte dieser edle Wein aus den USA im Eichenholz. Freemark Abbey, etwas mehr als 100 Kilometer nördlich von San Francisco gelegen, setzte dabei zu einem kleinen Anteil neue Fässer ein.
