Holden Manz Visionaire 2020

The name Holden Manz Visionaire already hides something special. It is an attempt to create an expressive wine from 6 different grape varieties. And it has succeeded! The interplay was a real challenge for the winemaker, as a wide variety of components had to be taken into account. The grapes were selected from different plots with different soil types. Ageing took place in 20% new 225-liter French oak barrels and 80% in 2nd and 3rd fill barrels. After 24 months of ageing, the wines were blended and bottled. The result is a wine of incredible complexity, with a perfect balance between residual sugar and acidity. The nose is spoiled by a multitude of aromas, such as mulberry, redcurrant, delicate notes of white pepper and violets. On the palate, the Holden Manz Visionaire is elegant and smooth with medium maturity. It is dominated by red and black fruits with an exceptional minerality. The finely integrated tannins are firm and round off the taste impression wonderfully.Combine an air-dried fillet steak in pepper sauce or lamb chops with this wonderfully complex Holden Manz Visionaire.

La Bri Affinity 2021

La Bri's cuvée The Affinity is more than the sum of its parts: The wine is only produced at all if the individual grape varieties come together in perfect harmony - which is why entire vintages (2018 and 2019) were deliberately omitted. The result: a carefully composed, richly structured Bordeaux blend that reflects South African winemaking at the highest level.Cabernet Sauvignon dominates in this powerful yet polished blend, complemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The nose reveals intense aromas of ripe berries and fine mocha, while the palate is velvety smooth with fine-grained tannins and a fresh, supporting acid structure. A red wine of depth, complexity and remarkable balance. The four grape varieties were vinified separately and then matured for 18 months in French barriques, 10% of which were new. Only then were the barrels selected and the final cuvée made - a demanding, quality-oriented process that gives the wine its balance and finesse. Each La Bri cuvée is associated with a characteristic flower. In the Affinity Blend, the Geissorhiza radians - also known as the "wine calyx" - adorns the label. Lanzerac Merlot 2023

The grapes for Lanzerac Merlot come from vineyards located in the Jonkershoek Valley near Stellenbosch. These vineyards are divided into four different parcels of land with vines that are between 9 and 17 years old, covering an area of 20.31 acres. This terroir consists of deep red, decomposed granite soils and is located between 125 and 400 metres above sea level. After arrival in the cellar, the grapes were selected by hand and destemmed. Before they were gently pressed, the loose grapes underwent a second selection by hand. Subsequently, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks with pumping over twice a day, allowing an optimal extraction of colour and aromas. The Merlot matured for 12 months in second- and third-fill French oak casks. The optimal point of the ripening process was reached by regular racking. This appetizing Lanzerac Merlot has a lot to offer and leaves nothing to be desired. On the nose, it offers concentrated aromas of black fruit, along with sweet notes of vanilla and spicy aromas. The tannins give the wine more complexity, gently underpinning aromas of plums, black cherries, cooked strawberry purée and dark chocolate, finely rounded off by a long, integrated finish. The Lanzerac Merlot goes beautifully with veal chops and portabello mushrooms, gnocchi in a red pepper sauce with crispy pancetta or with a creamy gruyere and parmesan cheese risotto.
