Warwick Professor Black Pitch Black

With Professor Black Pitch Black, the South African winery Warwick combines the well-known Bordeaux grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec with the Cinsault variety, which is very common in South Africa. This combination may seem unusual at first, but it brings a very special red wine to the glass.

The Cinsault gives this wine a penetrating freshness and liveliness. The Warwick Professor Black Pitch Black has a seductive aroma of wild strawberries, violets, dark berries and herbs. On the palate, there are expressive earthy aromas and various spicy notes. A wine with plenty of extract and depth from 18 months of ageing in French oak barrels. It impresses with fruity notes of plum and blackberry. The finish is extremely concentrated and lingers for a long time. If you give the wine a little time to breathe, it is ready to drink now, but will certainly continue to give pleasure for the next ten years.

The Warwick Professor Black Pitch Black is an excellent accompaniment not only to classic roast lamb, but also to slow-cooked oxtail or a juicy steak.

Warwick Wine Estate

Warwick Trilogy
The wine displays an intense ruby red colour in the glass. The bouquet is reminiscence of cherries, blackcurrants and has tones of dark chocolate. The pallet is full bodied with firm but silky tannins. Decanting is recommended to express the true essence of this Bordeaux blend. This wine pairs good with veal, game, and intensely flavoured stews or serve with a bitter chocolate desert.

Warwick Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc
Warwick Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine aged in stainless steel tanks. The grapes come from two different plots located in the higher elevations of Simonsberg in Stellenbosch. One was planted in 1985, the other in 2003. The diverse harvest lends the wine complexity, a variety of aromas, and structure. The grapes are harvested by hand early in the morning and transported immediately to the winery. Before pressing, the must remains in contact with the skins for 6–12 hours. The aromatic Sauvignon Blanc is then cold-fermented in stainless steel tanks. The 100-day aging on the fine lees gives the Sauvignon Blanc smoothness and body.Produced in limited quantities, the Warwick Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc displays typical aromas of elderflower, stinging nettle, passion fruit, and lime. On the palate, it is lively and zesty, with an abundance of passion fruit and lemon and a fresh, lingering acidity. The name pays homage to “Professor Black,” a researcher who cultivated South Africa’s first peaches on Simonsberg.Enjoy this wonderful wine on its own or serve it with fresh oysters, a salad with goat cheese, or grilled trout.
