Anthonij Rupert Optima

From the flagship range of Anthonij Rupert from Franschhoek in South Africa, we present the Optima. A cuvée made from the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. It is therefore a so-called Bordeaux blend.

A dark purple color in the glass already gives an idea of the complexity of this red wine. The nose is seductive and dense. The Anthonij Rupert Optima has a wonderful aroma of pepper and dark fruit. The palate is wonderfully elegant and smooth, with notes of blueberry, cassis, cedar wood, violets, cocoa and cigar box. The velvety texture with fine, polished tannins gives the wine a special sophistication. The oak aromas are always harmoniously integrated. The Optima spends 20 months in barrique barrels, which gives it a rich aroma.

A special red wine in every respect. Anthonij Rupert Optima is best enjoyed with grilled steak or an Indian curry dish.

Product recommendation

Anthonij Rupert Protea Cabernet Sauvignon
The Protea Cabernet Sauvignon from Anthonij Rupert Wines is an excellent example of South African wine quality at a fair price. The grapes come from the Groenekloof region in the Darling wine-growing area. Here the days are warm and the nights cool, so there is a big difference in temperature. This fact and the deep red soil with decomposed granite give the wine a unique blend of dark and red fruit aromas. The red wine is wonderfully concentrated, soft with a juicy tannin structure. On the palate, the Anthonij Rupert Protea Cabernet Sauvignon is round, soft, light and well-balanced. Fruit aromas of plum, dark berries and cherries are clearly perceptible, complemented by a delicate spicy note. The fruit notes combine wonderfully with the oak notes and end in a long, harmonious finish.Wonderful to drink solo at the end of the day. It pairs beautifully with anything that is not too hearty in taste.

Anthonij Rupert Protea Chardonnay

Anthonij Rupert Syrah
The Anthonij Rupert Syrah comes from strictly selected vines from the Franschhoek Valley in South Africa. A pre-selection is made as early as the hand-picking stage. Only the best grapes find their way into the wine. Both the fermentation and the subsequent maturation, which lasts an average of 21 months, take place in French oak barrels. The Anthonij Rupert Syrah was then bottled unfiltered and matured for a further 2 years. The red wine has a wonderful aroma of violets, plums, raspberries and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is amazingly complex but extremely multi-faceted. Beautiful fruity notes are in harmony with spicy notes and a gently integrated tannin structure. The finish is also juicy, balanced and convincingly long. For a long evening in front of the fireplace or as an accompaniment to a festive meal, you will hardly find anything better. Open the wine at least two hours before drinking and give it some time to develop in the glass.

Waterford Kevin Arnold Shiraz
The Shiraz (or Syrah) grape variety repeatedly achieves exceptional qualities in South Africa. The Waterford Estate Kevin Arnold Shiraz 2020 is an impressive example of this. Winemaker Kevin Arnold is an avowed fan of the grape variety. He has also managed to create a Shiraz in the Blaauwklippen Valley in not too long a time (Waterford Estate was founded in 1998) that plays in the international premier league. The bouquet of the Waterford Estate Kevin Arnold Shiraz combines multi-layered notes of dark plums with intense floral notes of violets. Nuances of licorice and leather as well as subtle earthy tones and a fine spiciness round off the bouquet. On the palate, this South African red wine is dry and engaging, with well-structured, velvety-soft tannins. Meryl Weaver writes of "powerful but supple tannins" in John Platter's Wine Guide. She honors the Waterford Estate Kevin Arnold Shiraz 2020 with 92 points (4.5 out of 5 stars). Great balance and fine acidity. The finish is concentrated and cool, with a long aftertaste.6% Mourvèdre are part of the composition.
