But Quintessa is taking a less publicized, quieter approach, so Quintessa still flies "under the radar" in terms of name recognition. Wine connoisseurs benefit from this, as the quality of this grape juice is "outstanding", but the price, compared to Opus One, is not yet.And the 2019 Quintessa has also once again become a wine trouvaille, which was remarkably rated 99/100 points by James Suckling and received the high score of 100/100 points from WineEnthusiast.91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, 2% Carménère and 1% Petit Verdot make up the cuvée, which matured in 60% new French oak for 22 months.The nose shows an incredibly vibrant picture of the elements of flowers, forest, fruit and earth. Spices, walnut, black fruit, sweet cherry, cassis and wood complement each other to form a complex, extremely sensual whole, with silky tannins, good fat, great structure and an eternally lingering echo.This wine offers seemingly endless aromas to be discovered, but is not "cerebral" in the sense that it is incomprehensible. It is too seductive for that and it is all the more remarkable that it is already accessible and ready to drink now, but will probably remain so for another 30 years.An ideal gift for wine connoisseurs and those who simply appreciate outstanding grape juice at its finest.A mature achievement!

The Rainbow's End Mystical Corner is an expressive red wine cuvée from the Rainbows End Wine Estate family winery in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Vinified with great care and composed of four classic Bordeaux grape varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec - this wine brings the depth and complexity of the terroir to the glass in perfect harmony.The dark soul of the wine is already evident on the nose: aromas of blackcurrant and dark cherries combine with a hint of damp earth - a fragrance reminiscent of cool forest moss and mineral soils. The Raka Barrel Select Merlot is a characterful, single-varietal red wine from the Western Cape in South Africa that exploits the full potential of this grape variety. With hand-picked grapes, traditional vinification and careful ageing in French barriques (25% new), this wine combines fruit, spice and structure in an elegant, accessible style - ideal for connoisseurs and Merlot lovers.On the nose, the Raka Barrel Select Merlot reveals intense aromas of ripe black fruit, accompanied by fresh mint and eucalyptus. On the palate, a harmonious interplay of spicy oak, juicy plums and supple tannins unfolds. The structure is clear and well-defined, the finish is long and balanced.After careful manual harvesting and a double selection of the grapes, fermentation took place with pure yeasts with daily flooding and manual punchdowns. The wine then underwent malolactic fermentation and was matured in 225-liter French oak barrels, 25% of which were new. This careful ageing gives it additional complexity without masking the fruit.This red wine is an excellent accompaniment to braised veal, pasta with mushroom cream sauce, lamb chops or mature soft cheese. It also impresses on its own with its balanced structure and fine spiciness. It is best served at a drinking temperature of 16-18°C to allow its aromatic diversity to unfold optimally.

Raka Figurehead 2023

The Raka Figurehead seduces with a multi-layered bouquet of dark fruits such as plum, mulberry and blackcurrant, complemented by earthy notes from the forest floor and a fresh hint of eucalyptus. On the palate, the wine is juicy and full-bodied, supported by aromas of red and black fruits, elegant wood notes and a fine spiciness that lingers on the long finish.This complex cuvée is made from a careful selection of fine grape varieties from the renowned Klein River Ward wine-growing region in South Africa. The grapes were all harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality.In the wine cellar, the grapes were carefully sorted and fermented with pure yeasts. Maceration lasted five days, during which the must was pumped over the skins 3-5 times a day and the cap was punched down to maximize depth of colour and aromatics. After alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation took place, followed by a short resting phase. The red wine then matured for 12 to 14 months in 225-liter French oak barrels before being blended, bottled and labeled.Raka Figurehead is an excellent accompaniment to hearty dishes such as roast beef, lamb and game, as well as mature hard cheeses and mushroom dishes. For an optimal taste experience, we recommend a drinking temperature of 16-18 °C.

The Raka Quinary is an impressive South African red wine cuvée with multiple international awards. With its classic Bordeaux composition of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, this wine combines structure, maturity and elegance in an expressive overall picture.In the glass, the Raka Quinary has a deep, ruby-red brick color. The nose is multi-layered with spicy notes of cassis, leather and fine roasted aromas. On the palate, the wine is dry, elegant and full-bodied, with red berry fruit and a subtle spicy note. The finish is characterized by leathery nuances and grippy, grainy tannins that give the wine depth and potential.All grapes were harvested by hand and cold macerated for 4 days after selection before fermentation began with selected yeast cultures. During fermentation, the wine was intensively pumped over and punched down to extract the color, tannin and aroma in the best possible way. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matured for 12 months in French oak, with new and multiple barriques providing a balanced wood aroma.The Raka Quinary is an ideal accompaniment to rack of lamb, fillet of beef, game dishes or mature hard cheese. Made from an elegant cuvée of Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, this South African rosé combines lightness with character. It comes from the Klein River Ward in the renowned Walker Bay region of the Western Cape - a coastal location known for cool nights and intense aromas in the grapes.In the glass, the Raka Rosé shines in an appetizing melon pink with a subtle orange shimmer - a play of colours that immediately makes you want to take the first sip. Lively notes of strawberry and cherry unfold on the nose, delicately accompanied by a hint of candy floss. On the palate, the wine is dry, animatingly fresh and slightly tangy, with a fruity finish and well-integrated acidity.The cuvée consists of selected lots of Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc - each pressed at only 6-15% to extract the delicate rosé aromas while maintaining the balance between freshness and structure. The style is modern, dry and fruity, yet clear and uncomplicated with South African charm.All grapes were carefully harvested by hand and gently pressed immediately after sorting. The maceration time was around 4 hours in order to achieve the desired color intensity and aroma. The juice was fermented with pure yeasts at a controlled temperature of around 16 °C to preserve the freshness and fruit. Before bottling, the wine clarified naturally by gravity and was then gently filtered.Served well chilled, this rosé is ideal with light dishes: whether seafood, summer pasta, antipasti or cold platters with ham and cheese - it is versatile and also cuts an excellent figure on its own as an aperitif or sundowner.

The Raka Spliced is the perfect everyday wine that impresses with its fruity and balanced structure. The cuvée of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Viognier comes from the Klein River Valley wine-growing region in South Africa.The bouquet is characterized by intense berry notes such as cherries, mulberries and blackberries, complemented by a fine olive note. On the palate, the wine has juicy plum fruit, lively cranberry acidity and subtle smoky oak flavors that lend it depth and complexity.The grapes were harvested by hand and carefully sorted in the vineyard and in the cellar. After a second berry selection, the must was fermented with pure yeasts. During the five-day maceration, the juice was pumped over the skins several times a day and punched down by hand to extract the color, tannins and aromas in the best possible way. After fermentation, the wine was separated from the yeasts, underwent malolactic fermentation and then matured for 12 to 14 months in a combination of 225-liter French oak barriques, 25% of which were new barrels.This versatile wine is an excellent accompaniment to grilled vegetables, pasta with tomato sauce, grilled poultry or spicy cheese variations.
