The Boekenhoutskloof Chocolate Block is a blend of predominantly Syrah (Shiraz) and smaller proportions of Grenache Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Viognier. Marc Kent, winemaker from Boekenhoutskloof in South Africa, created a wine with rich aromas of black cherries, cardamom, sweet tobacco, espresso and a hint of perfume with his "Chocolate Block". The dark fruit character is complemented by gentle nuances of ripe plums, violets, black olives, cloves and licorice. This is complemented by finely integrated cocoa-powdered tannins. On the palate, it offers a very good structure, refreshing acidity and a smoky minerality. John Platter awarded this noble and full-bodied wine 4.5 stars.The dry red wine matured for 16 months in French oak barrels.
