Lanzerac Merlot 2023

The grapes for Lanzerac Merlot come from vineyards located in the Jonkershoek Valley near Stellenbosch. These vineyards are divided into four different parcels of land with vines that are between 9 and 17 years old, covering an area of 20.31 acres. This terroir consists of deep red, decomposed granite soils and is located between 125 and 400 metres above sea level. After arrival in the cellar, the grapes were selected by hand and destemmed. Before they were gently pressed, the loose grapes underwent a second selection by hand. Subsequently, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks with pumping over twice a day, allowing an optimal extraction of colour and aromas. The Merlot matured for 12 months in second- and third-fill French oak casks. The optimal point of the ripening process was reached by regular racking. This appetizing Lanzerac Merlot has a lot to offer and leaves nothing to be desired. On the nose, it offers concentrated aromas of black fruit, along with sweet notes of vanilla and spicy aromas. The tannins give the wine more complexity, gently underpinning aromas of plums, black cherries, cooked strawberry purée and dark chocolate, finely rounded off by a long, integrated finish. The Lanzerac Merlot goes beautifully with veal chops and portabello mushrooms, gnocchi in a red pepper sauce with crispy pancetta or with a creamy gruyere and parmesan cheese risotto.

The Moulin Rose de Malescasse 2022 is the second wine of the renowned Château Malescasse and comes from the Haut-Médoc appellation. The vineyards are located between Margaux and Saint-Julien on the gravelly soils typical of the Médoc, which provide the vines with excellent drainage and contribute to the production of elegant, fruit-forward Bordeaux wines. The wonderful 2022 vintage benefited from a sunny and warm climate, which ensured optimally ripened grapes and particularly intense aromas. In the glass, Le Moulin Rose de Malescasse 2022 displays a deep ruby red color. Its bouquet is characterized by juicy aromas of black currants, blackberries, and ripe cherries, complemented by subtle notes of plums, spices, and a delicate hint of vanilla and toasted wood. On the palate, the wine is approachable, harmonious, and fruit-forward. The tannins are soft and well-integrated, creating a pleasant, silky texture. Its balanced structure combines the freshness of dark berries with subtle spice and an elegant, medium-length finish. Compared to the estate’s Grand Vin, the Moulin Rose is slightly more approachable earlier and particularly charming, without sacrificing the typical finesse and character of the Haut-Médoc. We estimate its aging potential to extend until approximately 2032.Thanks to its balanced character, this wine is a versatile food pairing, though it also shines on its own. It pairs superbly with grilled or pan-seared beef, lamb, duck breast, and hearty poultry dishes. It also pairs well with pasta featuring rich meat sauces, mushroom dishes, and aged cheeses. Le Moulin Rose de Malescasse 2022 proves to be an excellent choice alongside a classic cheese and charcuterie platter or during a cozy get-together with friends. Served at a temperature of about 16 to 18 °C, it beautifully reveals its fruity aromas and elegant structure, offering an authentic, delightful expression of the Haut-Médoc at an almost unbeatable price.
