Prunotto Barolo DOCG 2020

Als eine sichere Bank kann man wohl den Prunotto Barolo bezeichnen, schafft es der Wein doch seit Jahren eine kontinuierlich, außergewöhnliche Qualität in die Flasche zu bringen.Die Farbe dieses Rotweins aus dem Piemont ist granatrot. In der Nase ein feines Spiel von Beerennoten, Veilchen und Gewürzen, ergänzt um einen intensiven und komplexen Duft nach Rosenblättern. Am Gaumen ist der Prunotto Barolo wunderbar saftig und mit fein geschliffenen Tanninen. Eine stabile Säure trägt zu einer sehr guten Balance bei. Der Ausbau für 18 Monate in unterschiedlich großen Eichenfässern prägt unter anderem auch den weichen langanhaltenden Abgang.Der Prunotto Barolo passt gut zu Wildgerichten, Steaks oder Fleischgerichten mit dunklen Saucen.

Pym Rae Napa Valley 2018

The winery was founded by the brilliant actor Robin Williams, who named it after the middle names of his children Pym and Rae. In 2016, the Bordelais-based Tesseron family bought this vineyard in Napa Valley, located on Mount Veeder, which only covers around 8 hectares. Alfred Tesseron, one of the grand seigneurs in Bordeaux, had already taken Château Pontet-Canet in Pauillac to unimagined heights by being the first producer in Bordeaux to introduce biodynamics and resolutely and rigidly adhering to the principle of "back to nature". This was done in his very individual way, always striving for the very highest quality.You can expect nothing less from PYM-RAE. In 2016, purely organic work was immediately introduced here too and the son of the technical director of Pontet-Canet, Thomas Comme, is in charge. The consultant is star oenologist Michel Rolland, himself now a legend. "Manual work" is the motto at PYM-RAE; the vines are on average 29 years old and the grapes and must are treated with exceptional care in the cellar. No pumps are used and extraction is very gentle, not least because of the extremely small vats.PYM-RAE is composed of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc and thus corresponds to a classic Bordeaux cuvée. Hand-picked and matured for 16 months in 70% new French oak barrels and 30% in small concrete tanks, PYM-RAE is given the finishing touches.The result is a stunning grape juice of majestic proportions, of which unfortunately only a few bottles find their way to Europe.The wine is characterized by a great deal of fruit, elegance and silky tannins, with incredible depth and opulence. In addition to the plum, blackberry and blueberry aromas, paired with cassis, there are also notes of violets, chocolate, cigar box, mint, cocoa and olives.This "American Beauty" with French roots is best enjoyed solo over the next 40 years, or with a good steak or game board. Very curious wine lovers should decant it for about 1 1/2 hours beforehand. Incidentally, "solo" does not mean that you can't share the wine with good friends!

This Cabernet Franc from the Raats estate has a fascinating, exceptionally multi-faceted bouquet, which unites notes of blackberries, red currants, cherries, liquorice, anise and cedar, complemented by a fine spice. The pure varietal Cabernet Franc matured for 18 months in French oak casks, of which 25% were new barrels. The Ramón Bilbao Reserva is an elegant Rioja that perfectly combines tradition and personality. The traditional Ramón Bilbao winery, known for its more than 90 years of experience in winemaking in Rioja Alta, combines Tempranillo with ageing in American oak to create a wine full of depth, complexity and harmony.This Reserva has an intense bouquet of red fruits, harmoniously complemented by fine oak notes. It is fresh on the palate, with balanced acidity, a round body and soft tannins. A long, elegant finish rounds off the taste experience.The grapes come from vines over 40 years old from selected vineyards in Rioja Alta. After a 4-day pre-fermentation and a total of 18 days of maceration, malolactic fermentation takes place in concrete tanks, followed by 20 months of ageing in American oak barrels. The red wine then matures in the bottle to achieve its perfect harmony.This Ramón Bilbao Reserva is ideal with grilled meat, lamb, mature cheese or traditional Spanish dishes. The small, aromatic Shiraz grapes from the McLaren Vale region come from vines that are more than 30 years old, forming the basis for the RedHeads Coco Rotie Syrah Viognier. This is a fabulous showing in a very challenging yearThe Robert Mondavi Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon has a great depth, yet is remarkably accessible. 93% of the grapes for this blend come from the legendary vineyard To Kalon. The blend of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon as well as small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec has a deep dark color. On the nose the wine is wonderfully diverse. It offers intense aromas of dark fruit, sage, bay leaf and fine nuances of black pepper.On the palate, savory and with a clear, harmonious structure. The freshness, density, complexity and the persistent finish make the wine an extraordinary creation.The new wine was drained and gently pressed into 92% new French-oak barrels for malolactic fermentation, assuring seamless integration of fruit and oak. The final blend was assembled through repeated tasting trials over the 20 months of barrel aging.

Roda DOC Reserva 2021

An excellent vintage in the wine-growing region of Rioja and an outstanding Roda wine. This blend, consisting of 93% Tempranillo, a 3% of Graciano and a 4% of Garnacha, has a wonderful bouquet offering notes of sweet cherries, black fruit and nuances of Mediterranean herbs, complemented by perfectly integrated oak aromas. On the palate, the deep red Roda DOC Reserva is sumptuous and full-bodied. Initially, the wine is very fruity, showing an enormous balance and fine tannins. Its finish is once again characterised by a great, fresh fruitiness.The grapes come from bush vines that are more than 30 years old. These vines are cultivated without wire trellis training systems. The wine matured for 14 months in barriques, of which 40% were new and 60% were second-fill barrels. Afterwards, it was aged for another 30 months in the bottle. Luis Gutierrez writes in the Wine Advocate: ‘This wine has the potential to become a real bestseller.’You’ll want to discover the Toda DOC Reserva with moderate or hearty stews with chicken or beef, for example. This wine is an exemplary Rioja.
