Rombauer Zinfandel 2021

This wine from the Rombauer vineyards is a wonderful example of the quality that can be achieved with a Californian Zinfandel. The deep purple blend, consisting of Zinfandel and a very small percentage of Petite Sirah, has an enticing nose offering intense notes of blackberries, boysenberries, plums and cherries. Its exceptionally multi-layered bouquet is rounded off by subtle hints of vanilla and liquorice and spicy aromas as well. On the palate, the Rombauer Zinfandel is velvety and fresh, with fine tannins and a great length.The Zinfandel matured for 14 months in American and French oak casks, of which 10% were new American barrels. The grapes come from vines which grow in the Californian counties of El Dorado, Amador, Lake and Napa, uniting in wonderful interaction. You’ll enjoy discovering this Zinfandel with T-bone steaks, lamb, a Wagyu burger, spare ribs or filet mignon. It is also a perfect accompaniment to ripe cheeses and stews.

The bouquet reveals aromas of dark fruits such as blackberry and cassis, complemented by notes of dark chocolate and a hint of spices, as well as sandalwood and truffles. The bouquet of the Rustenberg John X Merriman pampers your senses with diverse notes of dark plums, black currants, sour cherries and tobacco. On the palate, this blend, consisting mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and a smaller percentage of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, is medium-bodied, with a pleasant structure and noticeable tannins that become increasingly subtle over the years. This is already a powerful, high-quality wine that will benefit considerably from additional ageing. The Rustenberg John X Merriman matured for 20 months in French oak casks, of which 35% were new barriques. Second- and third-fill barrels were used as well.This red wine is dedicated to John Xavier Merriman, a former owner of the Rustenberg estate. He acquired the winery in 1892, breathing new life into it.

Since its founding in 1995, Bodegas Salentein has spared no effort to become one of the premium wineries in Argentina. The winery succeeded in recruiting star oenologist José Galante, and invested millions in the construction of the wine cellar that was built underground in the shape of a cross and equipped with the latest technology. The Salentein Barrel Selection Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most outstanding results of these efforts. It is a pure varietal Cabernet Sauvignon that matured for 12 months in French oak casks before it was bottled. It is a striking, intensely dark red – almost black - in the glass, offering the classic Cabernet Sauvignon aromas of currants, pepper and vanilla. It is fleshy on the palate, showing a very elegant structure and fine, soft, well-integrated tannins. The finish is long and voluminous. Those who prefer typical Cabernet Sauvignon wines will be delighted by this Salentein Barrel Selection. It is best served at a temperature of 16-18 °C (60.8-64.4 °F) and goes beautifully with lamb, game and mildly seasoned red meat. It is also an ideal accompaniment to hard cheeses. The ‘Barrel Selection’ line from the Salentein winery comprises pure varietal wines whose vines grow in vineyards situated between 1050 and 1700 metres above sea level, irrigated by the clean meltwater from the Andes mountains. The stony soils protect the vines from excessively cool temperatures at night. During the day, the hot climate and lots of sunshine form the ideal basis to create wines that wonderfully reflect the characteristics of the terroir of the Uco Valley.
