Spier Signature Pinotage 2024

The Pinotage vines from the Spier vineyard are planted in rows facing north-east to south-east and are therefore never exposed to the bright afternoon sun. This prevents the grapes from overheating and developing overly spicy aromas. The proximity to the sea, which is only about 8 kilometers away, is also helpful. A low harvest of 50 hectolitres per hectare gives the grapes plenty of intensity and the wine has enough strength and depth to mature in wooden barrels. Fermentation at no more than 25 °C ensures plenty of fruit. 40% of the wine matures in French or American oak barrels, giving this Pinotage a pleasant vanilla flavor without losing the fruit.Deep cherry red in the glass, the bouquet smells of delicious fresh fruit, cherries and coconut. There are also various spices such as pepper, vanilla, leather and tobacco notes. Spier Signature Shiraz 2023

The Spier Signature Shiraz comes from carefully tended vineyards in the Stellenbosch region.A short fermentation at low temperatures gives the South African wine a strong character, with delicious fruit flavors. Two thirds of the wine is then matured for around six to eight months in a mixture of French and American oak, which rounds off the wine nicely and gives it extra complexity. Wood and fruit remain perfectly balanced. In the glass, the Spier Signature Shiraz has a bright ruby red color. The nose is dominated by wonderfully intense aromas of sweet fruit, marmalade, rosemary and thyme. There is also a slightly peppery note. On the nose, the red wine is elegant, slightly spicy with light tannins. It is supported by a delicious vanilla aroma, berries, plums and pepper.This dry red wine is a great combination with grilled beef, lamb and game, and is also delicious with duck and quail.

Steenberg Five Lives Red Blend 2021

Eine Hommage an die Gründerin von Steenberg, Catharina Ras. Five Lives symbolisiert ihre Lebensgeschichte, die in fünf Kapiteln beschrieben werden kann. Eine Frau, die Ihren Mut nutzte, sich anzupassen und jeder neuen Herausforderung fern von Ihrer Heimat Lübeck trotzte.Die Weinberge für den südafrikanischen Steenberg Five Lives Red Blend liegen auf altem Granit in der Region Westkap. Merlot und Cabernet Sauvignon werden in Edelstahltanks vinifiziert. Vor der Gärung werden 10-15 % des Saftes von den Schalen entfernt, um den Körper und die Fülle zu verbessern. Beide Sorten werden 14 Tage lang getrennt auf den Schalen vergoren. Zweimal am Tag wird abgepumpt, um Farbe und Tannin zu extrahieren. Nach der Gärung werden sie getrennt in kleine französische Eichenfässer umgefüllt. Die malolaktische Gärung findet im Fass statt und der Wein reift 20 Monate lang. Anschließend wird der Wein verschnitten und vor der Abfüllung leicht geklärt.Im Glas zeigt sich der Rotwein in einer intensiven dunkelroten Farbe mit einem helleren Granatrot am Rand. Die Nase umspielen Aromen von Schwarzer Johannisbeere, Cassis, Noten von Erde, Basilikum und Pflaume. Der Wein ist mittelkräftig bis vollmundig und zeigt eine seidige Textur und Tiefe sowie eine elegante Tanninstruktur. Noch lange nach dem letzten Schluck prägen den Gaumen pikantes Pesto aus sonnengetrockneten Tomaten, Tabakgewürz, Kirsche und Zimt. Der Merlot bildet das Rückgrat dieses Weins mit sauberen, hellen Früchten, die ihm subtile Frische verleihen. Der Cabernet Sauvignon bringt ein formales, ernsthaftes Profil in die Mischung ein.

The Stellenrust Cornerstone Pinotage comes from the winery's so-called Super Premium Range and thus represents the second highest level of quality. A wine that is given a lot of attention.South Africa is known for its large proportion of Pinotage wines, which is why it is a challenge to vinify a particularly good Pinotage. Dr. Tertius Boshoff, winemaker and owner of Stellenrust, therefore places extreme importance on the selection of grapes and their processing. After being harvested by hand, the grapes are pressed for around 36 hours and then fermented in stainless steel tanks. Maturation takes place in French oak barrels over a period of around 20 months.On the nose, the Stellenrust Cornerstone Pinotage has an aroma of blueberries and raspberries, with notes of ripe peach and black cherry. On the palate, the wine is juicy and full-bodied, delicate and warm with subtle oak tones. Thelema "The Mint" 2022

Thelema The Mint comes from the Stellenbosch region in South Africa. The wine has a long tradition and is proven to be one of the best Cabernet Sauvignons in the country.The origin of the "mint" character is attributed to the transfer of air from the eucalyptus trees bordering this particular Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard to the grapes. The outer wax layer of the berries adsorbs eucalyptol, a compound responsible for the aroma, which is released into the air by the trees. It then dissolves on the skins during the fermentation process, inevitably giving the wine a "minty" character that is unique to this vineyard. In the glass, the wine is a deep dark red. The nose is characterized by aromas of ripe red berries, cassis and dark chocolate. On the palate, a hint of mint complements the opulent overall impression. The Thelema Merlot is an elegant, full-bodied red wine from the renowned vineyards of South Africa.It embodies a remarkable balance between gentle elegance and lively fruitiness. After fermentation in steel tanks, the wine is drawn off, transferred to storage tanks and placed in French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation. The Thelema Merlot is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 25% of which are new barrels and the rest in older barrels, which adds depth, complexity and subtle spice.This Merlot is an excellent accompaniment to grilled meat, game, hearty stews or mature cheese.
