Spier Creative Block 5 2022

The Creative Block 5 from Stellenbosch (Paarl) presents a deep red color with a youthful ruby rim. Layers of fruit aromas of blackberries, black cherries, blackcurrants, dark chocolate and fennel notes.Balanced on the palate, with flavors of berries and oak infused with spicy notes of cinnamon and cloves. Some notes of cedar oak lead to a finish of refined but present tannins. The grapes were harvested by hand, pre-cooled, destemmed and individually sorted.Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks for up to 21 days. Malolactic fermentation and maturation took place for 18 months in 300-liter French oak barrels.Excellent with roast beef, lamb or mushroom risotto.

Spier Creative Block 8 2023

The Spier Creative Block 8 from the traditional Spier winery is an expressive cuvée from South Africa that combines eight grape varieties in perfect harmony: Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Cinsaut, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The grapes come from vineyards in the Coastal Region, which grow on weathered slate and granite with a loamy subsoil. These soils store water optimally and, together with the cooling influence of the nearby Atlantic, ensure slow maturation and a high concentration of aromas.In the glass, the wine is a deep ruby red with a youthful glow. Intense aromas of black cherries, blackberries, dark chocolate and fine vanilla unfold on the nose. On the palate, it is dense and soft, characterized by juicy wild berries and a hint of dried cranberries. The structure is balanced, the mouthfeel silky and the finish long, with a fine, dry tannin.Vinification is carried out with the utmost care: each grape variety is harvested by hand, fermented separately and aged for 16 months in 300-liter French oak barrels (30% new wood, 40% second passage, 30% third passage). After careful selection and blending, the cuvée matures for a further 2 months to complete its harmony.The Spier Creative Block 8 is a versatile food companion and goes perfectly with Moroccan-spiced, braised lamb shank with root vegetables and a hint of truffle oil or with moussaka with roasted coriander. This red wine is best enjoyed at a drinking temperature of 16-18 °C.

Spier Discover Pinotage Shiraz 2024

Spier Frans K. Smit Red 2018

Every vintage of Spier Frans K. Smit Red is a work of art. The vines for the blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot all come from the western and north-western slopes of the Helderberg in Stellenbosch. Decomposed granite soils there store water well, which leads to slow maturation and increased mineral complexity. The area also benefits from the cooling effect of the nearby Atlantic Ocean.The winegrowers invest a great deal of time and care in each individual vine. After harvesting by hand and carefully packing the grapes into small 10 kg crates, they are hand-picked, crushed and pumped into a mixture of 500 l barrels and small steel tanks, where the juice remains on the lees for 3 - 6 weeks. The wine is then transferred to small French oak barrels for a maturation period of around 24 months.Winemaker Frans K Smit, after whom the wine is named, selects the best blends from the barrels, which then continue to mature in the barrel for a further 6-8 months. Each barrel of the limited, internationally sought-after red wine is personally made by him.The Spier flagship impresses in the glass with its deep and vibrant ruby red color. On the nose, there are notes of cigar box, berries, cherries and nuances of mint. The Cabernet Franc brings subtle richness, sweet fruit and creaminess to the palate, while the Petit Verdot brings balance and structure. The red wine is complex and dense in structure, with a silky, medium palate and a soft, long finish. The tannins are firm and assertive on the one hand, but also round, soft and elegant.The balance and refined elegance of this blend harmonize well with meat dishes such as rib-eye steaks, roast beef and smoky grilled steaks.

Spier Signature Pinotage 2024

The Pinotage vines from the Spier vineyard are planted in rows facing north-east to south-east and are therefore never exposed to the bright afternoon sun. This prevents the grapes from overheating and developing overly spicy aromas. The proximity to the sea, which is only about 8 kilometers away, is also helpful. A low harvest of 50 hectolitres per hectare gives the grapes plenty of intensity and the wine has enough strength and depth to mature in wooden barrels. Fermentation at no more than 25 °C ensures plenty of fruit. 40% of the wine matures in French or American oak barrels, giving this Pinotage a pleasant vanilla flavor without losing the fruit.Deep cherry red in the glass, the bouquet smells of delicious fresh fruit, cherries and coconut. There are also various spices such as pepper, vanilla, leather and tobacco notes. Spier Signature Shiraz 2023

The Spier Signature Shiraz comes from carefully tended vineyards in the Stellenbosch region.A short fermentation at low temperatures gives the South African wine a strong character, with delicious fruit flavors. Two thirds of the wine is then matured for around six to eight months in a mixture of French and American oak, which rounds off the wine nicely and gives it extra complexity. Wood and fruit remain perfectly balanced. In the glass, the Spier Signature Shiraz has a bright ruby red color. The nose is dominated by wonderfully intense aromas of sweet fruit, marmalade, rosemary and thyme. There is also a slightly peppery note. On the nose, the red wine is elegant, slightly spicy with light tannins. It is supported by a delicious vanilla aroma, berries, plums and pepper.This dry red wine is a great combination with grilled beef, lamb and game, and is also delicious with duck and quail.

The Springfield "The Work of Time" is a powerful, Bordeaux-inspired red wine cuvée from Robertson in South Africa.A spicy and sensual aroma on the nose, peppery and open. The broad and complex bouquet of Springfield The Work of Time is accompanied by vanilla, berries, cherries and a hint of chocolate. You can taste a smooth elegance on the palate and a slightly mature taste. There is also a light spiciness, vanilla aroma and cherry.The overall taste is smooth and well-rounded. The grapes were fermented entirely with indigenous yeasts (according to ancient custom) and left on their skins for 5 weeks. This was followed by 2 years of slow barrel ageing and a further 4 years of bottle ageing.
