Spier Creative Block 8

The Spier Creative Block 8 from the traditional Spier winery is an expressive cuvée from South Africa that combines eight grape varieties in perfect harmony: Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Cinsaut, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The grapes come from vineyards in the Coastal Region, which grow on weathered slate and granite with a loamy subsoil. These soils store water optimally and, together with the cooling influence of the nearby Atlantic, ensure slow maturation and a high concentration of aromas.

In the glass, the wine is a deep ruby red with a youthful glow. Intense aromas of black cherries, blackberries, dark chocolate and fine vanilla unfold on the nose. On the palate, it is dense and soft, characterized by juicy wild berries and a hint of dried cranberries. The structure is balanced, the mouthfeel silky and the finish long, with a fine, dry tannin.

Vinification is carried out with the utmost care: each grape variety is harvested by hand, fermented separately and aged for 16 months in 300-liter French oak barrels (30% new wood, 40% second passage, 30% third passage). After careful selection and blending, the cuvée matures for a further 2 months to complete its harmony.

The Spier Creative Block 8 is a versatile food companion and goes perfectly with Moroccan-spiced, braised lamb shank with root vegetables and a hint of truffle oil or with moussaka with roasted coriander. This red wine is best enjoyed at a drinking temperature of 16-18 °C.

Spier Wines

Niel Joubert kaufte Spier 1965.
