Rustenberg John X Merriman 2021

The bouquet of the Rustenberg John X Merriman pampers your senses with diverse notes of dark plums, black currants, sour cherries and tobacco. On the palate, this blend, consisting mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and a smaller percentage of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, is medium-bodied, with a pleasant structure and noticeable tannins that become increasingly subtle over the years. This is already a powerful, high-quality wine that will benefit considerably from additional ageing. The Rustenberg John X Merriman matured for 20 months in French oak casks, of which 35% were new barriques. Second- and third-fill barrels were used as well.This red wine is dedicated to John Xavier Merriman, a former owner of the Rustenberg estate. He acquired the winery in 1892, breathing new life into it.

Shannon Rockview Ridge Pinot Noir 2019

Dieser Pinot Noir aus dem Elgin Valley in Südafrika lässt keine Genusswünsche offen: Animierende Noten von Himbeere, Erdbeere, Johannisbeere und Kirsche vereinen sich zu einem faszinierenden Bukett. Dazu kommen, so formuliert es Tim James in John Platter’s Wine Guide, herzhafte Noten von Waldboden.Der reinsortige Pinot Noir aus Südafrika reifte für etwa ein Jahr im französischen Barrique aus Burgund heran. Zum Einsatz kamen dabei Fässer von drei verschiedenen Küfern und 20 Prozent neue Eiche sowie Fässer zweiter (40%) und dritter (20%) Füllung.Das Elgin Valley galt lange als das Zentrum des Anbaus von Äpfeln und Birnen in Südafrika. Mittlerweile haben einige Weingüter bewiesen, wie ideal das Terroir auch für den Anbau hochwertiger Weine ist. Das Weingut Shannon zählt dazu.

The Simonsig Pick of the Bunch Pinotage has a dark red color. The aromas of sweet red fruits and cherries are dominant and captivating from the start. The grand finale then features notes of blackcurrant and velvety, silky tannins.Frans Malan, the founder of Simonsig Estate, presented his estate's first red wine in 1970 with a Pinotage. It is deliberately not aged in wood in order to emphasize the fruitiness and bring out the raspberry notes. Our recommendation: Enjoy the wine four to eight years after the harvest. Simonsig Redhill Pinotage 2021

The Redhill Pinotage from the Simonsig winery is redolent of plums, mulberries and cherries, complemented by fine, subtle nuances of vanilla. The grapes come from old, low-yield bush vines that are cultivated without wire trellis training systems. However, the vines produce grapes that are more concentrated. On the palate, the Simonsig Redhill Pinotage offers fine tannins, an elegant length and a good structure. Its finish is characterised by spicy nuances of cedar. The pure varietal Pinotage matured for 15 months in predominantly French oak casks. A small percentage of this wine was aged in American oak. Spier 21 Gables Pinotage 2020

For the South African winemakers a good Pinotage is always a challenge. Pinotage makes special demands on the quality of the vineyards and the art of the wine. In the Private Collection the wines have great strength and great depth and it is the art too tame the Pinotage so it becomes not too hard and dry. Perfectly ripe grapes are therefore an important condition. It is taken by the grapes from their own vineyards of Spier in Stellenbosch, where no more than 50 hectoliters per hectare Pinotage is harvested. The grapes are picked by hand in order to arrive undamaged in the basement, without oxidation. The Private Selection is made of only the best parts of the vineyard. The fermentation takes place after a short cold maceration, some in open containers. Then the wine is aged in a mixture of French and American oak barrels. American Wood emphasizes the bright and intense sweet fruit from the Pinotage and accentuates the beautiful character of this variety to a particular way. Colour: intense ruby red. Fragrance: Subtle fragrance with caramalised black cherries, hints of dark spice and dark chocolate. Taste: delicious fruit and elegant taste, pleasant feel of wood and vanilla with a light seasoning, a continuing strength, with great length and nice ripe tannins. Can be drunk now, but can also improve 4 to 7 years.Delicious with a beautiful bouquet with black pepper steak, pasta with pesto and black olives, ripe cheese.
