The Edition Z from the South African wine estate De Toren is a cuvée or a blend, as they say in South Africa, of the Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot grape varieties. These grape varieties and types of cuvée can be found in Bordeaux, particularly on the right bank of the Gironde. The style of these wines is also reflected in De Toren Z.On the nose, there are notes of blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, dark chocolate, vanilla, smoke, tobacco and coffee. De Toren Fusion V 2020

If you want to taste one of the absolute top wines from South Africa, De Toren Fusion V is a must. The V stands for the 5 Bordeaux grape varieties used in the wine. The quality is on a par with the great wines from Bordeaux.After hand-picking and selecting the grapes, a long, gentle fermentation followed. Maturation took place over a period of 12 months in 50% new and 50% second-fill barrels. Barrels of 225 liters were used. (90% French and 10% American) In the glass a clear violet with a slight sparkle. The nose is characterized by blueberry, cedar, black cherry, dark chocolate and a hint of fennel. On the palate, De Toren Fusion V offers a silky fullness with a hint of sweet fruit. The overall package of well-integrated tannins, long-lasting depth, firm structure and minerality makes this wine a top product.Pair it with grilled or roasted lamb with garlic and rosemary.

Die Tannine sind wunderbar integriert, das Finale ist delikat-würzig. Der Rotwein hallt noch sehr lange nach. Für die Kreation aus 53% Cabernet Franc, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot und 3% Malbec betreibt das Team um Winemaker Morné Vrey enormen Aufwand. Die Trauben werden in den frühen Morgenstunden geerntet und die Lese erfolgt mit größter Akribie, sodass nur das allerbeste Lesegut die Grundlage für diesen herausragenden Rotwein aus Südafrika bietet. Der Delaire Graff The Banghoek 2017 reifte dann für 16 Monate in französischen Eichenfässern, wobei zu 60 Prozent neue Fässer zum Einsatz kamen.

Delheim Merlot 2019

The grapes for the Delheim Merlot come from vines that are almost 20 years old, located in the Peperboom vineyard. The ‘Peperboom’ (‘pepper plant’ in English) was originally cultivated here. The harvest was carried out in a two-step selection in order to achieve the maximum concentration of tannins and colour. The wine was fermented with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks at temperatures between 77° and 82.4° F. Subsequently, the wine remained in contact with the skins for another 18 days and then aged for 15 months in French oak casks, of which 20% were new barrels. Its bouquet offers noticeable aromas of tobacco, red fruit, cloves and cinnamon. On the palate, the Delheim Merlot is elegant, with a subtle structure and silky tannins. It is full-bodied, showing a remarkable freshness recalling aromas of bilberries and plums. Another three to four years of ageing in the bottle will further enhance the wine’s qualities and contribute to its optimal stage of maturity. The Delheim Merlot is definitely a genuine delight to enjoy with fried chicken or mushroom soup.

The Donier Donatus is a masterful cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, sourced exclusively from the Dornier vineyard on the sun-drenched slopes of Stellenbosch Mountain. The unique combination of red, weathered granite soil and clay-rich soils ensures that the grapes ripen slowly and evenly. The result is a profound wine of impressive concentration and fine elegance.The hand-picked grapes are carefully selected in the cellar and fermented separately. Fermentation takes place in open fermentation vats with pumping over four times a day to ensure optimum extraction while preserving the fruit aromas. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for 18 months in French oak barrels, a third of which are new barrels - this gives the wine a fine spiciness and complexity without masking the freshness. The harmonious blending only takes place after maturation, so that only the best components make it into the bottle.In the glass, Donier Donatus impresses with an intense black-violet color and a multi-faceted aroma of ripe blackcurrant, cassis and blackberry.
