The Creative Block 5 from Stellenbosch (Paarl) presents a deep red color with a youthful ruby rim. Layers of fruit aromas of blackberries, black cherries, blackcurrants, dark chocolate and fennel notes.Balanced on the palate, with flavors of berries and oak infused with spicy notes of cinnamon and cloves. Some notes of cedar oak lead to a finish of refined but present tannins. The grapes were harvested by hand, pre-cooled, destemmed and individually sorted.Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks for up to 21 days. Malolactic fermentation and maturation took place for 18 months in 300-liter French oak barrels.Excellent with roast beef, lamb or mushroom risotto.

Spier Creative Block 8 2023

The Spier Creative Block 8 from the traditional Spier winery is an expressive cuvée from South Africa that combines eight grape varieties in perfect harmony: Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Cinsaut, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The grapes come from vineyards in the Coastal Region, which grow on weathered slate and granite with a loamy subsoil. These soils store water optimally and, together with the cooling influence of the nearby Atlantic, ensure slow maturation and a high concentration of aromas.In the glass, the wine is a deep ruby red with a youthful glow. Intense aromas of black cherries, blackberries, dark chocolate and fine vanilla unfold on the nose. On the palate, it is dense and soft, characterized by juicy wild berries and a hint of dried cranberries. The structure is balanced, the mouthfeel silky and the finish long, with a fine, dry tannin.Vinification is carried out with the utmost care: each grape variety is harvested by hand, fermented separately and aged for 16 months in 300-liter French oak barrels (30% new wood, 40% second passage, 30% third passage). After careful selection and blending, the cuvée matures for a further 2 months to complete its harmony.The Spier Creative Block 8 is a versatile food companion and goes perfectly with Moroccan-spiced, braised lamb shank with root vegetables and a hint of truffle oil or with moussaka with roasted coriander. This red wine is best enjoyed at a drinking temperature of 16-18 °C.

The Springfield "The Work of Time" is a powerful, Bordeaux-inspired red wine cuvée from Robertson in South Africa.A spicy and sensual aroma on the nose, peppery and open. The broad and complex bouquet of Springfield The Work of Time is accompanied by vanilla, berries, cherries and a hint of chocolate. Tenuta Argentiera Ventaglio Rosso Toscana IGT 2015

Das Weingut Tenuta Argentiera gehört ohne Zweifel seit Jahren zu den Top-Erzeugern aus der Toskana. Der Ventaglio Rosso Toscana ist das Premiumprodukt des Weingutes. Mit dem Jahrgang 2015 hat Argentiera erstmals einen Lagenwein aus einer ganz besonderen Parzelle vinifiziert. Lediglich 2950 Flaschen in 750 ml Größe und nur 250 Magnumflaschen wurden abgefüllt. Die Basis für diesen 2015er Jahrgang ist die Rebsorte Cabernet Franc. Der Wein wurde mit 15% Cabernet Sauvignon verschnitten. Das Besondere an der Lage des Weinberges ist seine fächerförmige Anordnung der Rebstöcke. Dieses gibt dem Wein auch seinen Namen. (Fächer heißt im Italienischen Ventaglio) Diese Art der Pflanzung führt dazu, dass die Trauben des Weinberges in verschiedene Kategorien eingestellt sind.Der Ventaglio weist höchste Komplexität und Struktur auf. Seine außergewöhnliche Eleganz bringt die unterschiedlichen Komponenten wunderbar zusammen. Sowohl die Gärung als auch die Reifung fand in teilweise neuen französischen und österreichischen Eichenfässern statt. Das verleiht dem Wein einen robusten und langlebigen Körper.Die Farbe zeigt ein starkes Rubinrot und die Ränder schimmern in leichtem Violett. Die Nase ist geprägt von viel schwarzer Frucht. Die anfänglichen Aromen von Brombeere und Pflaume gleiten in ein Rauch- und Gewürzaroma über. Am Gaumen präsentiert sich der Ventaglio von Argentiera extrem kraftvoll und vielschichtig. Erdige Töne spielen mit den fein geschliffenen Tanninen. Der Abgang ist wunderbar fruchtig und von zarter Cremigkeit.

Tenuta Argentiera Ventaglio Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

Der Tenuta Argentiera Ventaglio ist eine Rotwein-Ikone aus der Toskana. Monica Larner würdigt diesen reinsortigen Cabernet Franc in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate mit 97 Punkten. Und sie schreibt diesen bemerkenswerten Satz: „Wenn es einen Himmel gibt, in dem Weinreben leben, dann ist es vielleicht der Weinberg Ventaglio.“ Im Zentrum des Weinbergs unweit des Tyrrhenischen Meeres steht eine alte Eiche, von der aus die Rebzeilen strahlenförmig angeordnet sind. Das Ganze wirkt wie ein Fächer, italienisch: Ventaglio.Das Bouquet des Tenuta Argentiera Ventaglio 2016 ist herrlich fruchtintensiv und verführt gleichzeitig mit einer einnehmenden Würze. „Reichhaltige Noten von Brombeere und dunklen Johannisbeeren“ erkennt der Falstaff (der auch 97 Punkte vergibt). Auch Larner schreibt bei diesem Rotwein aus dem Anbaugebiet Bolgheri von „getrockneten Brombeeren“. Hinzu kommen eine schöne Würze (Rosmarin, Zedernholz) sowie Noten von Tabak, Kakao und eine steinige Mineralität. Am Gaumen ist der italienische Rotwein von der toskanischen Küste trocken, hocharomatisch und kraftvoll. Im Falstaff heißt es: „Der Gaumen ist griffig und kraftvoll und öffnet sich mit vielen Schichten dichtem Tannin, zusammen mit würzigen Noten, dunkler Beerenfrucht und etwas Lakritz.“ Das Finale beschreibt Larner als „vielschichtig, tief und reichhaltig.“Dieser Ausnahme-Rotwein stammt von einer Einzellage, die das Weingut selbst als „unser kleines Familienjuwel" bezeichnet. Akribisch werden hier die Trauben von Hand gelesen. Nur in außergewöhnlichen Jahrgängen wird der Tenuta Argentiera Ventaglio in streng limitierter Flaschenzahl produziert. 2016 war so ein herausragendes Jahr mit sehr guten klimatischen Bedingungen, sodass die Cabernet Franc-Trauben eine eindrucksvolle Aromenintensität ausbildeten.

Tignanello Toscana IGT 2021

Diesen „Super-Toskaner“ braucht man eigentlich nicht mehr vorstellen. Italienische Eleganz, gepaart mit viel Finesse und feinster, vielschichtiger Aromatik bei balancierter Säure stehen auch beim 2021er Tignanello im Vordergrund, der 2021 fünfzig Jahre alt geworden ist. Nie auf der feisten und fetten Seite, nie erschlagend, und doch von majestätischer Figur, immer ausgewogen und höchst vielschichtig. Die Cuvée besteht aus 80 % Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon und 5% Cabernet Franc. An der Nase viel dunkle Früchte, Zeder, Kräuter, Orange, Gewürze, süsser Pfeiffentabak und Pfeffer. Dies setzt sich am Gaumen fort, mit zusätzlichen Noten von Grapefruit, Himbeere, einem Korb voll dunkler und heller Kirschen, etwas Nelken und viel cremigen, sanften Tanninen. Im Hintergrund spinnt eine feine Säure ihre Fäden und hält die Komposition zusammen. Der Nachhall ist extrem lang und nicht enden wollend. Der 2021er Tignanello bleibt dabei immer eine vollendet harmonische Hymne, ohne jegliche dissonante Noten. Wieviel Hingabe und Perfektion diesem Wein zu Teil kommt, wird auch dadurch deutlich, dass er 17 Monate im Fass reift. Davon verbringt er 3 Monate während der malolaktischen Gärung in neutralem Holz und liegt anschließend noch 14 Monate zu 50% in Neufässern. Es ist kein Wunder, dass auch in diesem Jahr das Flagschiff der Marchesi Antinori nahezu einhellig den Highscore der Kritiker abräumt (zu den Bewertungen siehe unten). Wer den Wein bereits heute gerne trinken möchte, sollte ihn mindestens für zwei Stunden vor dem Genuss dekantieren. Ansonsten dürfte er, die Geduld des Besitzers vorausgesetzt, noch mehrere Dekaden Trinkfreude bereiten. Parker: 98/100; Galloni 98/100.
