The Bodegas Salentein estate, located in the Uco Valley near Mendoza in Argentina, is one of the most renowned wineries in South America. Both the building itself with its underground cellar in the shape of a cross and the range of wines offered by the winery are impressive. The Salentein Barrel Selection Chardonnay is a pure varietal Chardonnay that matured for 6 months in American oak casks before it was bottled. It is a straw yellow in the glass. The wonderfully rich bouquet offers aromas of pears, apples, cloves, lime blossoms and tropical fruit such as honeydew melon and limes. On the palate, the wine is soft and ingratiatingly full-bodied, with a lovely melt. The subtle hints of tropical fruit are underpinned by discreet notes of oak. The opulent Chardonnay is well-balanced, showing a lovely acidity.Its long finish is soft, elegant and silky. We recommend enjoying the Salentein Barrel Selection Chardonnay on its own as an aperitif but also to accompany a good meal. It goes perfectly with crustaceans, salmon, pasta, poultry, veal and young cheeses.

The ‘Barrel Selection’ line from the Salentein winery comprises pure varietal wines whose vines grow in vineyards situated between 1050 and 1700 metres above sea level, irrigated by the clean meltwater from the Andes mountains. The stony soils protect the vines from excessively cool temperatures at night. During the day, the hot climate and lots of sunshine form the ideal basis to create wines that wonderfully reflect the characteristics of the terroir of the Uco Valley. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay vines as well as the pure varietal Malbec are cultivated here.The Salentein Barrel Selection Malbec is an intense, slightly purplish red in colour. It is complex on the nose, offering an abundance of red fruit and black berries as well as light floral notes. Each sip softly caresses the palate with lots of fruit and a delicate sweetness. Winemaker José Galante, a former professor of oenology at the University of Maza, is one of Argentina’s most renowned and successful oenologists. With this wine, he created a wonderfully fruity, full-bodied Merlot distinguished by its intensity as well as its subtle nuances. This is due particularly to the hot temperatures prevailing in the Uco Valley during the day, accompanied by cool nights, ensuring optimal ripening of the grapes. The Barrel Selection Merlot is a deep red with blue glints in the glass. On the nose, it offers lots of fruit and is redolent of ripe quinces, wild berries and spices, along with nuances of tobacco and vanilla that result from the ageing in French oak casks. Salentein Primus Malbec 2022

Am Gaumen ist dieser reinsortige Malbec üppig und zugleich elegant, mit einer tollen Komplexität. Süßliche Tannine, typisch für Malbec, eine gute Struktur und große Balance ergeben ein perfektes Zusammenspiel. Die große Frische, seine beerige und kräuterige Aromentiefe sowie die angenehme Mineralität machen den Salentein Primus Malbec zu einem Geschmackserlebnis. Das Finale klingt lange nach. Auch James Suckling hat der Jahrgang 2018 überzeugt, er vergibt 92 Punkte. Dieser in limitierter Auflage kreierte Rotwein wird nur in Jahren produziert, in denen die Qualität der Trauben den Ansprüchen genügt, die mit einem Primus Malbec verbunden sind. Der Rotwein reifte für 18 Monate in französischen Eichenfässern, im Anschluss 12 Monate in der Flasche in den Kellern des Weingutes. Wir empfehlen, diesen Malbec aus dem Uco-Tal in der Mendoza-Region 30 bis 60 Minuten vor dem Trinkgenuss zu dekantieren. Die ideale Trinktemperatur liegt bei 16 Grad. Der tief violett-rote Wein ist ein toller Begleiter zu rotem Fleisch, kräftigem Käse sowie Gerichten, bei denen Saucen mit Zwiebeln oder mit schwarzem Pfeffer gereicht werden.Den Salentein Primus Malbec können Sie problemlos für 10 Jahre lagern.
