Salentein Portillo Merlot

The Salentein Portillo Merlot is wonderfully fruity and fresh. It is redolent of dark fruit and paprika, which is typical of Merlot wines. The fruity aromas continue unabated on the palate, along with great harmony and richness. This wine goes down very smoothly, and is simply delightfully round and moreish.

The Bodegas Salentein Portillo Merlot is lovely to enjoy on its own but also goes beautifully with light meat or pasta dishes.

Bodega Salentein

Salentein Barrel Selection Merlot
This Barrel Selection wine from the Bodegas Salentein estate, located in the Uco Valley at the foot of the Andes in Argentina, is a pure varietal Merlot. Winemaker José Galante, a former professor of oenology at the University of Maza, is one of Argentina’s most renowned and successful oenologists. With this wine, he created a wonderfully fruity, full-bodied Merlot distinguished by its intensity as well as its subtle nuances. This is due particularly to the hot temperatures prevailing in the Uco Valley during the day, accompanied by cool nights, ensuring optimal ripening of the grapes. The Barrel Selection Merlot is a deep red with blue glints in the glass. On the nose, it offers lots of fruit and is redolent of ripe quinces, wild berries and spices, along with nuances of tobacco and vanilla that result from the ageing in French oak casks. On the palate, the wine is extremely full-bodied and soft, showing a superb structure with ripe, very fine tannins and a long, charming finish. This Barrel Selection Merlot not only shows an immense, fruity fullness but is also rich in substance and concentration, giving it much more character than its competitors. This wine is always the right choice for those who prefer typical and thus not merely fruity Merlot wines. In this respect, the Salentein Barrel Selection Merlot is exactly what Bodegas Salentein wants to achieve: to produce a wine that wonderfully reflects the marvellous terroir of its vineyards located in Mendoza. This Merlot is lovely to enjoy on its own. It also goes beautifully with ripe hard cheeses, dishes with beef and other red meat, and anything grilled. We recommend serving it at a temperature of 16 °C (60.8 °F) and decanting the wine half an hour before drinking it.

Salentein Barrel Selection Cabernet Sauvignon
Since its foundation in 1995, Bodegas Salentein has spared no effort to become one of the premium wineries in Argentina. They succeeded in hiring the star oenologist José Galante; millions were invested in the construction of the wine cellar, which was built underground in the shape of a cross using state-of-the-art technology. The Barrel Selection Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the outstanding results of this remarkable effort. This red wine from the Bodega Salentein winery is a pure Cabernet Sauvignon that was allowed to mature for 12 months in French oak barrels before being bottled. Its intensely dark, almost red-black color is striking in the glass. It has a classic Cabernet Sauvignon aroma, with blackcurrant, pepper and vanilla. Lots of flesh on the palate, with a very elegant structure and well-integrated, soft and fine tannins. The finish is long and full-bodied. Lovers of typical Cabernet Sauvignons will be delighted with the Argentinian Salentein Barrel Selection. This dry red wine is best served at 16-18 degrees and is an excellent accompaniment to grilled meat, lamb, game and mildly spiced red meat, as well as hard cheeses. A little decanting allows the aromas to come into their own.
