The San Roman Prima Tinto DO is a powerful yet elegant red wine from the renowned DO (Denominación de Origen) wine region in Spain.

In addition to the Aalto, Bodegas Mauro and Garmon wineries, the family of the famous Spanish oenologist Mariano Garcia and his sons also own the San Roman Toro house. Wines have been produced here since 1997. This means that the Prima Tinto comes from vines that are already 25 years old in some cases. The red wine is exemplary of the wildness of the Toro region. A wine that is very easy to drink even at a young age. A strong ruby red in the glass and a nose characterized by berry fruit and floral notes, as well as a hint of vanilla, make the Prima unmistakable from the very first moment. Spicy notes characterize the palate and the tannins are soft and delicate. A slight sweetness accompanies the fruity, full finish.

Try the Prima with grilled meats, hearty stews or tapas.

For this price, the San Roman Prima Tinto DO is very impressive and perhaps even a real insider tip from the Toro.

Presumably due to its higher concentration, the bouquet of this wine needs some time to open up. The Coto de Imaz Reserva has a brick-red color with orange hues typical of Rioja. On the palate, delicate notes of berries and jam dominate, wrapped in smoky, spicy aromas and hints of vanilla. This red wine is finely balanced with noticeable yet incredibly soft and mellow tannins and an intense, complex structure. The finish is long-lasting and elegant.The grapes come primarily from the clay soils of the Rioja Alta, but also from the limestone soils of the Rioja Alavesa. After harvest, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. This is followed by 16 to 18 months of aging in American oak barrels. The Coto de Imaz Reserva then matures for at least two more years in the bottle before being released for sale.It pairs excellently with game dishes, confit de canard, grilled red meat, or ham. It is also wonderful with medium-aged, not-too-sharp cheeses.

Tinta de Toro is the name given to the Tempranillo grape variety in the Toro DO wine region. The San Román Toro, made from 100% Tempranillo, is an outstanding example of the red wines from this region. The exceptional winemaker Mariano Garcia has been running the San Román winery since the mid-1990s. Garcia is better known for his premium wineries, Aalto and Mauro. Yet it is here in the Toro region that the top oenologist Garcia produces particularly expressive wines. The grapes for the San Román Toro come from vines that are about 40 years old, which lend the wine depth and complexity.In the glass, it displays an intense ruby red color with a luminous violet rim. The San Román Toro has a refined aroma of black pepper, dark fruits, and a hint of licorice. Thanks to 24 months of aging in used American and French oak barrels, this dry red wine is concentrated and full-bodied on the palate. Subtle vanilla notes are accompanied by earthy and spicy notes. The finish is silky and long.Try the San Román Toro with beef or grilled meats. It also pairs very well with dark chocolate or hard cheeses.
