Tinta de Toro is the name given to the Tempranillo grape variety in the Toro DO wine region. The San Román Toro, made from 100% Tempranillo, is an outstanding example of the red wines from this region. The exceptional winemaker Mariano Garcia has been running the San Román winery since the mid-1990s. Garcia is better known for his premium wineries, Aalto and Mauro. Yet it is here in the Toro region that the top oenologist Garcia produces particularly expressive wines. The grapes for the San Román Toro come from vines that are about 40 years old, which lend the wine depth and complexity.

In the glass, it displays an intense ruby red color with a luminous violet rim. The San Román Toro has a refined aroma of black pepper, dark fruits, and a hint of licorice. Thanks to 24 months of aging in used American and French oak barrels, this dry red wine is concentrated and full-bodied on the palate. Subtle vanilla notes are accompanied by earthy and spicy notes. The finish is silky and long.

Try the San Román Toro with beef or grilled meats. It also pairs very well with dark chocolate or hard cheeses.
