San Vicente Rioja DOCa - Elegant Tempranillo red wine with depth and structureSince 1991, oenologist Marcos Eguren, scion of a long-established winegrowing family in Rioja, has been producing this grape juice, which is limited to around 60,000 bottles a year. His San Vincente is the modern version of a premium Rioja that combines the best of all Spanish wine worlds. How is this to be understood? The San Vincente preserves the traditions and classic virtues of a Rioja by being aged for 20 months in wooden barrels (90% French and 10% American oak) and then bottled unfiltered. The wine is therefore guaranteed to keep for a long time. However, Marcos Eguren goes far beyond this in his approach to creating a modern and qualitatively outstanding wine; he focuses on a more fruit-driven style than is usual in Rioja.Not just any vines are used, but the noble variety of Tempranillo, namely Tempranillo Peludo, from the company's own 18-hectare Finca la Canoca vineyard, which is located on the best clay and limestone terroir. The grapes are hand-selected twice to ensure that only the best grapes make it into the wine.It is also striking that the wine is vinified with such precision and high quality that vintage fluctuations are hardly noticeable. Every year, the San Vincente is a top-class Rioja with an exceptionally good price-performance ratio.A deep, dark red color greets the eye of the wine connoisseur. The Telmo Rodriguez Basa DO Rueda has an enticingly fruity and spicy bouquet offering notes of passion fruit, melon, citrus fruit and pears, along with nuances of fennel and hints of minerals. This blend, consisting of Verdejo and Viura, is elegant, fresh and very harmonious on the palate, with a wonderful texture and a lovely, mineral finish.The grapes for this wonderfully accessible white wine from the Rueda region come from bush vines that are cultivated without wire trellis training systems. The Telmo Rodriguez Basa DO Rueda is not only a terrace wine that is lovely on its own, but is ideal with Spanish omelettes and fried white fish as well.In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the wine, special labels were designed by different artists. The Telmo Rodriguez Dehesa Gago DO is a single-varietal Tinta de Toro - a local variant of the Tempranillo grape variety - and an authentic expression of the terroir of the Toro region. Eight winegrowing families cultivate their old bush vines in a low planting density and the grapes are traditionally harvested by hand. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and six months of ageing in stainless steel tanks preserve the pure fruit and freshness of the wine, which is deliberately not aged in wood.The nose reveals an enticing bouquet of fresh cherries, blackberries and fine chocolate notes, complemented by a pleasant spiciness. On the palate, this red wine impresses with its juicy fruit, good structure, harmonious acidity and soft texture. The Telmo Rodriguez Gaba do Xil O Barreiro smells of white flowers, dried light fruits, spices, almonds and honey. The grapes for the Telmo Rodriguez Pegaso Pizarra come from vineyards located in the shadow of the La Paramera mountains. The bush vines in the used vineyards located in Cebreros are between 60 and 80 years old and form the basis for a Garnacha of great depth. The bouquet offers notes of blackberries, black cherries and balsamic aromas as well as earthy notes and mineral nuances. On the palate, the red wine is fleshy, juicy, medium-bodied and concentrated. The fine tannins are wonderfully integrated. We recommend decanting the garnet-red wine before drinking it so that it can develop its full quality. ‘Barrancos de Pizarra’ means steep slate slopes. The red wine reflects this terroir in an impressive, authentic manner.
