San Vicente Rioja DOCa 2021

San Vicente Rioja DOCa - Elegant Tempranillo red wine with depth and structure

Since 1991, oenologist Marcos Eguren, scion of a long-established winegrowing family in Rioja, has been producing this grape juice, which is limited to around 60,000 bottles a year. His San Vincente is the modern version of a premium Rioja that combines the best of all Spanish wine worlds. How is this to be understood? The San Vincente preserves the traditions and classic virtues of a Rioja by being aged for 20 months in wooden barrels (90% French and 10% American oak) and then bottled unfiltered. The wine is therefore guaranteed to keep for a long time. However, Marcos Eguren goes far beyond this in his approach to creating a modern and qualitatively outstanding wine; he focuses on a more fruit-driven style than is usual in Rioja.

Not just any vines are used, but the noble variety of Tempranillo, namely Tempranillo Peludo, from the company's own 18-hectare Finca la Canoca vineyard, which is located on the best clay and limestone terroir. The grapes are hand-selected twice to ensure that only the best grapes make it into the wine.

It is also striking that the wine is vinified with such precision and high quality that vintage fluctuations are hardly noticeable. Every year, the San Vincente is a top-class Rioja with an exceptionally good price-performance ratio.

A deep, dark red color greets the eye of the wine connoisseur. Dark and some red berries, herbs, chocolate and roasted aromas on the nose. Full-bodied, fleshy on the palate, elegance and power at eye level, balanced by good acidity. The use of the barrel is noticeable, but it is never intrusive or goes too far. Lots of harmony, depth, well-integrated tannins and a very long finish.

Please decant at least one hour before drinking.

Fernandez Rivera Tinto Pesquera MXI Ribera del Duero DO

The Macán Clásico is a joint venture between the Rothschild and Álvarez families that, since 2009, has been interpreting the diversity and terroir of Rioja in a distinctive style. For the 2020 vintage, in addition to Tempranillo, small amounts of Garnacha and Graciano from selected plots were included for the first time to further enhance the wine’s complexity and freshness. The grapes come from vines averaging 40 years old, grown in the premier vineyards of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Labastida, Ábalos, Navaridas, and Elvillar at an elevation of approximately 500 meters. The grapes are hand-harvested into 12-kg crates and carefully selected. Aging takes place over 16 months in barriques and large oak barrels. The wine then matures for an additional 28 months in the bottle, during which time it develops its characteristic balance, elegance, and complexity. On the nose, the Macán Clásico is powerful yet refined, with a multi-layered bouquet. On the palate, it harmoniously combines richness and elegance. Its balanced structure, precise fruit, and fine tannins lend it depth, while the vintage’s freshness and the Graciano component provide additional vibrancy and a long, balanced finish. This Rioja pairs excellently with braised lamb, beef tenderloin, game dishes, and aged Manchego. Thanks to its structure and aging potential, it also makes an outstanding accompaniment to festive meals and special occasions.

Be Solo DO
It is not always clear at first glance what exactly is behind a wine. This is also the case with Sei Solo. Javier Zaccagnini, former founder and owner of the famous Bodegas Aalto, founded his personal project in 2007. He bought around 3 hectares of vineyards near his favorite village of La Horra in the Ribera del Duero region. His aim was to bring the finesse and elegance of the Ribera del Duero into his wines, without the wines losing their backbone and tannin structure. Javier Zaccagnini is a lover of classical music and particularly admires Johann Sebastian Bach. He derived the name for his wines from the six sonatas for violin and obbligato harpsichord (Sei Sounate à Cembalo certato è Violino Solo).Sei Solo is a top-class Spanish red wine that is dark purple-red in the glass. The nose reveals particularly aromatic fruit notes of plum and blackberry. The wine smells of Mediterranean herbs, cocoa and subtle roasted aromas. A hint of licorice completes the whole. On the palate, Sei Solo is powerful and complex, with an exceptional freshness that you would not expect from such a wine. The balance between velvety tannins and rich fruit characterizes the mouthfeel.Elegant and full of finesse, Sei Solo pairs wonderfully with lasagne, mature cheese, lamb and braised dishes.

Clos Henri Estate Sauvignon Blanc Organic
The Clos Henri Estate Sauvignon Blanc Organic is an expressive white wine from New Zealand that impressively reflects the terroir of the renowned Marlborough wine region. This organic wine comes exclusively from Clos Henri Estate's own vineyards located in the Wairau Valley - a sub-region known for its cool climate and mineral-rich soils. The grapes for this Sauvignon Blanc are cultivated in high planting density on three different soil types: clayey Wither and Broadbridge subsoil as well as barren Greywacke stones. This special soil diversity - created by two prehistoric glacial movements - gives the wine its multi-layered structure and elegant minerality. Organic cultivation, dry farming and selective harvesting produce a wine typical of the grape variety with a clear expression of the terroir. After gentle pressing and separation of the must, it is fermented at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. The wine then matures for three months on the fine lees - with regular batonnage - to develop additional complexity and structure. The result is a fresh, textured Sauvignon Blanc with excellent ageing potential of five to eight years. In the glass, the Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc shines in a light straw yellow. Intense aromas of lemon blossom, orange zest and fresh grapefruit unfold on the nose. On the palate, the wine is lively, clear and juicy - with precise acidity and a long, mineral finish. This Sauvignon Blanc is an ideal accompaniment to ceviche, tuna tataki, goat's cheese tart or fresh figs. Serve at 10-12 °C to bring out its delicate aromas to the full.
