The 2022 Château Mauvesin Barton Moulis comes from the renowned Moulis-en-Médoc appellation in the Médoc region north of Bordeaux. The estate has been owned by the Barton family since 2011; the family also owns the famous Château Léoville Barton and Château Langoa Barton. The 2022 vintage was crafted from 55% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 9% Cabernet Franc and benefited from the estate’s clay- and limestone-rich soils, which retained remarkable freshness despite the hot and dry growing season.

In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby red color with violet highlights. The bouquet reveals intense aromas of black currants, blackberries, and dark cherries, complemented by floral notes, spices, cedar, and subtle hints of vanilla and toast from the barrique aging, one-third of which took place in new barrels. On the palate, the Mauvesin Barton 2022 is full-bodied and juicy, with ripe fruit, precise acidity, and fine-grained tannins. Notes of cassis, plums, black pepper, and subtle toasted aromas lead into a long, elegant finish.

In terms of quality, the 2022 vintage ranks among the best wines produced to date at Château Mauvesin Barton. James Suckling awarded it 92–93 points, Jane Anson gave it 92 points, and Decanter rated it 92 points. This wine’s aging potential extends until around 2035.

As a food pairing—assuming you don’t wish to enjoy the wine on its own—this classic Bordeaux harmonizes superbly with braised beef, rack of lamb, game dishes such as venison or roe deer, and hearty stews. It also pairs excellently with duck breast, aged hard cheeses, and mushroom dishes. Its combination of dark fruit, spice, and structured tannins makes it a versatile pairing for fine dining.

Château Poujeaux 2020 is an outstanding wine from the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation, one of the smaller but highly regarded regions on the left bank of Bordeaux. The estate, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, is known for its consistent quality work and its ability to produce wines with strong character and longevity year after year. The 2020 vintage benefited from a balanced climate with warm days, cool nights and an ideal ripening period, resulting in excellent concentration and elegance in the grapes.The cuvée of the 2020 vintage consists predominantly of Cabernet Sauvignon (54%), supplemented by Merlot (40%) and Petit Verdot (6%). This classic Bordeaux composition reflects the terroir character of the gravelly soils in Moulis particularly well and ensures complexity and depth.In the glass, Château Poujeaux 2020 is an intense, deep ruby red. The nose reveals a multi-layered bouquet of dark berries, particularly cassis, black cherry and blackberry, accompanied by floral notes such as violets as well as cedar, tobacco, cocoa and a hint of graphite - typical of the Left Bank style.On the palate, the wine impresses with density and elegance. The tannins are finely polished, the texture silky, and yet the Poujeaux 2020 has a powerful structure. The fruit aromas are concentrated but not overripe, accompanied by fresh acidity and a beautiful mineral note. The finish is long, harmonious and shows very good ageing potential.The 2020 vintage is considered by wine critics to be one of the best in the winery's recent history. James Suckling awarded it 93 points and praised its "precise structure, purity and depth". Wine Advocate and Vinous also emphasized the balance of power, freshness and elegance. The wine is already very appealing when young, but has the potential to mature for 15 to 20 years, during which it will continue to grow in complexity.Château Poujeaux 2020 is a classic but modern Bordeaux with depth, structure and finesse. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why Chasse-Spleen is so popular and has a loyal following in Germany.The Chasse-Spleen is a wonderfully classic representative of Bordeaux, which will please connoisseurs with its depth and red fruitiness.The blend consists of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot.The color is a sparkling, deep Bordeaux red. Roasted notes, vanilla and some cherry on the nose. After a little aeration, wonderful aromas of red fruits emerge. The Merlot provides the fullness, while the Cabernet Sauvignon is responsible for the finesse and silky touch. The tannins present bring a nice balance to the equation. Der Le B par Maucaillou 2020 ist der Bordeaux Supérieur vom berühmten Château Maucaillou aus der renommierten Appellation Moulis. Maucaillou heißt übersetzt so viel wie schlechte Steine, was aus dem Kontext der Zeit der Namensgebung des Weinguts darauf hindeutet, dass der Boden aufgrund der dortigen großen Kiesel nicht für eine normale Landwirtschaft taugte. Die Kehrseite der Medaille war aber, dass das Terroir ideal für den Weinbau ist und Maucaillou seither fantastische Rebsäfte produziert, die in großen Jahrgängen, wie 2020, richtige Trouvaillen sind.Le B spiegelt die Frucht seines großen Bruders, dem Grand Vin, wieder und ist ein absoluter gute Laune-Knaller. Selten hat uns ein junger Bordeaux-Wein - mit einem solchen Preis-Leistungsverhältnis - direkt aus der Flasche heraus mit seinem Charme und seiner vollen und frischen Frucht begeistert. Wir hatten fast den Eindruck, einen guten Kalifornier vor uns stehen zu haben, so opulent verführte uns das tiefe Himbeerbukett dieses Weins.Pascal und Magalie Dourthe, die Eigentümer von Château Maucaillou bezeichnen diesen Rebsaft, der zur vollen roten Frucht auch noch schöne Röstnoten, Mokka und Gewürznoten präsentiert, als den perfekten Einstieg in das Universum dieses Weinguts.
