Château Labégorce Margaux AOC 2018

Château Labégorce, located at the northern end of Margaux, is back on the map of the great wines of this appellation, and the 2018 vintage is no exception, quite the contrary. The vineyard extends over 70 hectares of vines, surrounded by such prestigious neighbors as Château Margaux and Château Lascombes.

The cuvée consists of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The wine matures for 12-14 months in French oak barrels, 40-50% of which are new barrels.
In the glass, Château Labégorce 2018 is a deep purple-garnet with a black center. The bouquet seduces with intense aromas of ripe blackcurrants, cherries and cassis, accompanied by spicy notes such as tobacco, exotic woods and a hint of liquorice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with a silky texture and well-integrated, fine-grained tannins. The finish is long and characterized by a subtle fruity sweetness and a pleasant freshness.

Château Labégorce 2018 harmonizes perfectly with hearty dishes such as grilled beef, lamb chops, game dishes or stews. Matured cheese or black pudding also go well with this wine. For a special taste experience, we recommend pairing it with truffle aioli chicken hearts or wild boar with wild herb sauce.

This wine has excellent ageing potential. It can be enjoyed now, i.e. still very young, and can continue to develop until 2045. For optimal enjoyment, it should be decanted for at least one hour.

Baron de Brane Margaux
Baron de Brane is the second wine of the award-winning Cru Classé Château Brane Cantenac from Margaux. Wine connoisseurs will realize that this red wine must be something very special. Far from being second rate, this wine is an outstanding product of the Margaux appellation. The blend consists of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Carmenere, aged for 12 months in wooden barrels with 30% new barrels. Fruit, elegance and Margaux refinement characterize the Baron der Brane. A price-performance miracle that impresses with dark berries and a typical Cabernet Sauvignon nose. This is followed by liquorice, blackberries, roasted notes and some tobacco on the palate. The finish is long and harmonious, the tannins are silky and well integrated. This red wine is an excellent accompaniment to BBQ game dishes, red meat and blue cheese. We think: A brilliant achievement from this Margaux estate, which is currently flying high. Be sure to pick it up, as the wine will continue to improve in the cellar over the next few years. Wonderfully ready to drink now, but decant for an hour first!

Ségla
Ségla is the second wine from the renowned Château Rauzan-Ségla in Margaux. In the last two decades, Rauzan-Ségla has almost always been one of the top trio in the Margaux appellation, alongside the appellation's namesake and Château Palmer. The vintage was an extraordinarily good one, one speaks here of a vintage of the century. This is particularly true of Margaux, where the wines show a wonderful balance between fruit and the finesse typical of the appellation. The cuvée consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The Ségla is now at the height of drinking maturity and impresses with its beautiful black berries, minerality, silky tannins and spicy notes. The finish is long and elegant.A great wine for solo enjoyment, as well as for food pairing with pasta, game, roasts and not too spicy cheeses.

James Suckling: 97/100 Punkte; Robert Parker: 95/100 Punkte; André Kunz: 18/20 Punkte.

Château Labégorce Margaux AOC 2019
Consisting of 46% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, Château Labégorce is a model wine from the Margaux appellation with a great price-performance ratio. 2019 was a particularly good year on the left bank of the Gironde, enabling this vineyard, located on the northern edge of Margaux, to produce an exceptional grape juice of great precision and intensity. The 2019 Labégorce was matured in French oak, 40% of which was new barrels. Lots of blackcurrant, dark fruit, tobacco, coffee beans, dark cherry, chocolate, menthol, liquorice and beautiful roasted aromas create a harmonious aromatic picture, supported by fine and polished tannins. The typical Margaux finesse shines through here too, with a good balance of acidity and silky texture."A lot of Margaux for the money" could be the headline for this grape juice, which can also be enjoyed after 1-2 hours of decanting, but whose actual drinking maturity will begin in 2024.Jane Anson: 92/100Suckling: 91-92/100Gabriel (Kunz): 18/20
