Château La Commanderie Saint-Estèphe Cru Bourgeois AOC 2019

The Château La Commanderie is a cuvée made of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot. The grapes for this classical Saint-Estèphe, in the Cru Bourgeois range, come from vines that are more than 30 years old. The wine matured for 12 months in French oak casks. The vines for the 2017 La Commanderie grew in the highest vineyards with gravel soils located in the village of Saint-Estèphe. The wine is a typical example of this outstanding vintage in the Bordeaux region. It is already very enjoyable but will further improve over the next 8-10 years. The Château La Commanderie is beguiling on the nose, offering lovely, spicy aromas and fragrances of red and dark berries, cherries, pepper and polish. On the palate, it has an impressive abundance of fruit and silky, very well integrated tannins and a lovely long finish, showing subtle hints of mint and herbs. This charming Saint-Estèphe goes beautifully with beef, steaks, lamb, game and various cheeses. We recommend decanting the wine 1-2 hours before drinking it.

Saint-Émilion, located on the right bank of Bordeaux, is still not only one of the best wine-growing regions in the Bordelais, but in the whole world. The reputation of the grape juices that come from there is no coincidence. The silkiness, freshness, fruit, volume and depth give these wines something unique. It is good that these values are also represented by wines such as Château Rozier, which offer this at a reasonable price without being too much of a burden on the wallet. The Rozier, which is vinified from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, was allowed to mature in peace. There was no time pressure during the harvest, which was done by hand. The wine was matured for around 15 months in oak barrels. The Rozier is characterized by a sparkling, deep red. Sweet plums, licorice, stewed fruit and some spices form a fine and seductive bouquet that is harmonious, soft and opulent. Typical of a true Saint-Émilion, the wine is also full-bodied and dense in texture. The finish is long and elegant.Château Rozier will keep for several years, but is already a pleasure to drink after at least an hour of decanting. An absolute recommendation as a solo wine, but also with game, beef, lamb or duck!

Château Malescasse Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois AOP 2022

The Château Malescasse 2022 comes from Lamarque, which is located in the renowned Haut-Médoc appellation, between Margaux and Saint-Julien. This historic estate, classified as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, benefits from the region’s characteristic gravelly soils, which provide ideal conditions for growing high-quality Bordeaux grape varieties. The 2022 vintage is composed of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45.5% Merlot, and 5.5% Petit Verdot, reflecting both the power of the exceptional 2022 vintage and the elegance of its terroir. The grapes are carefully selected and vinified by plot to optimally highlight the distinctive characteristics of each vineyard. The wine is then aged for 12 months, one-third of which is spent in new barriques, imparting additional complexity, structure, and aging potential. The result is a characterful Haut-Médoc with great aging potential that offers much enjoyment even in its youth but can continue to develop until around 2040.In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby red color with violet highlights. The bouquet is ripe, intense, and multi-layered, dominated by dark fruits such as blackberries, black currants, plums, and blueberries. These are complemented by subtle notes of licorice, tobacco, and spices, along with a hint of vanilla and toasted aromas derived from aging in oak barrels; here, the wood provides a lovely, supportive backdrop without ever taking center stage. On the palate, Château Malescasse is powerful and concentrated, yet remarkably balanced. The ripe, finely textured tannins lend it depth and elegance, while a pleasant freshness provides balance. The long finish is accompanied by recurring dark fruit and spicy accents.Culinary-wise, this Bordeaux pairs superbly with hearty meat dishes such as beef tenderloin, entrecôte, rack of lamb, or game. It also pairs excellently with braised dishes, mushroom dishes with truffles, and aged hard cheeses. Served at 16 to 18 °C and ideally decanted one to two hours before drinking, the Château Malescasse Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel 2022 unfolds its full aromatic potential and impresses with a successful blend of power, finesse, and classic Bordeaux elegance. A fantastic Bordeaux with unbeatable value for the price!

Baron de Brane is the second wine of the award-winning Cru Classé Château Brane Cantenac from Margaux. Wine connoisseurs will realize that this red wine must be something very special. Far from being second rate, this wine is an outstanding product of the Margaux appellation. The blend consists of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Carmenere, aged for 12 months in wooden barrels with 30% new barrels. Fruit, elegance and Margaux refinement characterize the Baron der Brane. A price-performance miracle that impresses with dark berries and a typical Cabernet Sauvignon nose. This is followed by liquorice, blackberries, roasted notes and some tobacco on the palate. The finish is long and harmonious, the tannins are silky and well integrated. This red wine is an excellent accompaniment to BBQ game dishes, red meat and blue cheese. We think: A brilliant achievement from this Margaux estate, which is currently flying high. Be sure to pick it up, as the wine will continue to improve in the cellar over the next few years. Wonderfully ready to drink now, but decant for an hour first!

This classic red Bordeaux comes from Entre-Deux-Mers, the region between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, and we can attest to its exceptional value for money. The excellent 2019 vintage, which ranks alongside 2015, 2016 and 2018, naturally plays an important role in this. The vines of this cuvée, which consists of 70% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc, are on average over 30 years old. The Roc de Segur is vinified in steel tanks and matures there for a further 10 months, which gives this grape juice an extraordinary freshness and fruitiness.Raspberries and many other red fruit aromas greet us on the nose. The body is full-bodied and well-structured, with silky and already well-integrated tannins. The finish is impressively long. This wine is just as convincing on its own as it is in combination with braised, grilled or matured cheese. However, as it is still quite young, allow the Roc de Segur to decant for at least an hour. In return, however, it should have a shelf life of several years.
