Denn der südafrikanische Rotwein ist ein kleines Fest für die Sinne, das schon jetzt jede edle Tafel bereichert. Aber, wie Christine Rudman in John Platter’s Wine Guide schreibt, das Beste liegt noch vor uns. 4 von 5 Sternen verleiht Rudman dem im Eichenholz ausgebauten Cabernet.Das Bouquet des pflaumenroten Weins ist einnehmend komplex. Noten von dunklen Beeren (Johannisbeeren) im wunderbaren Zusammenspiel mit Noten von Wildkräutern, Graphit und Zedernholz. Rudman schreibt dem Duftstrauß Noten von „Mokka-Schokolade & Cassis-Düfte“ zu.Am Gaumen ist der Babylonstoren Cabernet Sauvignon trocken, kraftvoll und meisterhaft ausbalanciert. „2020 ist opulent, seine Saftigkeit am Gaumen passt zu den kompakten Tanninen aus 18 Monaten Eichenholz, 40 % neu“, heißt es im Platter. Das Finale klingt noch eindrucksvoll lange nach. 18 Monate reifte der Rotwein von Babylonstoren - gelegen zwischen Paarl und Stellenbosch, etwa 50 Kilometer östlich von Kapstadt - in 300 Liter-Fässern aus französischer Eiche. 40% neue Fässer sowie 60% Fässer zweiter und dritter Füllung kamen zum Einsatz.

Babylonstoren Candide 2023

Dieser Weißwein aus Südafrika ist ein Blend aus überwiegend Chenin Blanc (49%) und Chardonnay (21%), assembliert mit kleineren Anteilen von Viognier, Sémillon und Sauvignon Blanc. Der Babylonstoren Candide ist eine Komposition aus allen weißen Rebsorten, die auf den Lagen des Weingutes heranreifen, das zwischen Paarl und Stellenbosch liegt.Das Bouquet ist anregend frisch-fruchtig. Der Candide duftet nach tropischen Früchten wie Ananas, Limetten und Melonen. Dazu kommen feinen Nuancen von Geißblatt, die den Duftstrauß abrunden. Am Gaumen ist dieser südafrikanische, Chenin Blanc-geprägte Wein trocken und zugleich herrlich knackig-frisch, mit mittlerem Körper und einem fruchtbetonten Aromenspiel sowie einer tragenden, frischen Säure. „Mit einer unterschwelligen Bienenwachs-Seidigkeit, die vom Sémillon herrührt“, formulieren die Macherinnen und Macher des Babylonstoren Candide. Das Finale ist anregend erfrischend.Viognier, Chardonnay und Sémillon wurden in französischen Eichenfässern zweiter und dritter Füllung vergoren und vier Monate auf der Hefe gelagert, bevor sie mit der frischen Chenin Blanc-Komponente assembliert wurden. Ein kleiner Bestandteil des gesamten Candide-Blends reifte in Nomblot-Betoneiern und Amphoren aus Terrakotta-Ton.Genießen Sie den eleganten, blass strohfarbenen südafrikanischen Weißwein gekühlt (10 bis 12 Grad) zu einem Obstsalat mit Käse und Schinken, zu einem Risotto mit grünem Spargel und Radieschen oder zu Kabeljau auf Brokkoli-Erbsen-Püree. Auch zu leichten Gerichten mit Hähnchenfleisch eine gute Wahl.

Der Babylonstoren Chardonnay ist ein eleganter und charaktervoller Weißwein, der die Essenz der Chardonnay-Traube ausdrückt. Dieser Wein präsentiert sich mit einer klaren, strohgelben Farbe im Glas und besticht durch ein aromatisches Bouquet von reifen Zitrusfrüchten, gebackenen Butterkeksen, gerösteten Mandeln und einer dezenten Eichenholznote. Dieser Chardonnay zeigt am Gaumen eine ausgewogene Kombination von Frische und Cremigkeit. Er ist wunderbar vollmundig und trocken. Kombiniert mit einem Hauch von Vanille und Butter, der durch die Fassreifung entsteht. Der Wein zeigt sich geschmeidig mit einer frischen Säure, die ihm eine ausgezeichnete Ausgewogenheit verleiht.Der Babylonstoren Chardonnay eignet sich ideal als Begleiter zu einer Vielzahl von Gerichten, wie z.B. einem Pilzrisotto. Um die Aromen dieses Weins optimal zu erleben, empfiehlt es sich, den Babylonstoren Chardonnay leicht gekühlt zwischen 11-12°C zu servieren. Ein mittelgroßes Weinglas ist ideal, um die Aromen und die Textur dieses erstklassigen Chardonnays zu würdigen.

This elegant Chenin Blanc from South Africa from the Babylonstoren winery shimmers in the glass in a pale straw yellow. The white wine has a stimulating, fresh and fruity aroma of white peach, guava, ripe pineapple, lemon curd and winter melon (wax gourd): a seductively multi-faceted bouquet.On the palate, the Babylonstoren Chenin Blanc is dry, crisp, fresh and wonderfully aromatic. The variety of tropical fruits is underpinned by aromas of gooseberries and pears. Masterfully balanced, with a fine play of acidity.A small proportion of this elegant South African white wine (10%) was matured in 4000-liter French oak barrels as well as in Nomblot concrete eggs and terracotta clay amphorae.Enjoy the Chenin Blanc at a drinking temperature of 10 to 12 degrees. This little feast for the senses from the slopes of the Simonsberg between the wine-growing regions of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl is an ideal accompaniment to roast thyme chicken on a bed of kohlrabi and carrots with pasta, pickled salmon with honey-mustard sauce or a rocket and mango salad with pine nuts.

Babylonstoren Shiraz 2023

This impenetrable ruby red Shiraz (Syrah) from South Africa is fruity and impressively fresh. At the same time, it impresses with a fine spiciness thanks to its long maturation in oak. Wine critic Christine Rudman was also impressed by the Babylonstoren Shiraz. She awards the Shiraz from the Cape 4 out of 5 stars in John Platter's Wine Guide.The bouquet combines intensely fruity notes of blackcurrants and cherries with spicy notes of black and white pepper and leather. The bouquet is underpinned by perfectly harmonizing woody notes. Rudman chooses these words: "Wonderfully perfumed, elegant berries and cherries, mixed spices with white pepper."The Babylonstoren Shiraz is dry on the palate, with a full body and supple, masterfully integrated tannins. The aromatic complexity is wonderful: flavours of cherries, plums and blackcurrants in fine interplay with nuances of chocolate and an underlying spiciness. The velvety mouthfeel and long-lasting finish round off the flavour experience. Rudman: ‘The 2020 surprises with a streamlined body, juicy & supple.’This South African Shiraz was matured in oak for a total of 18 months. Babylonstoren used 70% new and 30% second-fill French oak barrels (300 litres) for this high-quality Syrah. This red wine is a guarantee of enjoyment until 2030.Enjoy this creation from Babylonstoren, located between Paarl and Stellenbosch, at a drinking temperature of 16 to 18 degrees. Der Babylonstoren Sprankel MCC ist ein prickelnder Schaumwein aus Südafrika. Die Abkürzung MCC bedeutet Methode Cap Classique und beschreibt die Herstellungsmethode, die dem eines Champagners nahezu identisch ist. Und auch die Qualität dieses und anderer Schaumweine aus Südafrika sind vielen Champagnern ebenbürtig. Im Glas funkelt der Babylonstoren Sprankel MCC in einem brillanten, hellen Strohton mit einem feinen Grünstich. Er bildet eine feine, anhaltende Perlage. Das Bouquet verführt mit frischen Aromen von grünen Äpfeln, Zitrusfrüchten und weißen Pfirsichen, untermalt von floralen Noten und einem Hauch von Butterkeksen und Brioche. Die Trauben, 90% Chardonnay und 10% Pinot Noir, werden von Hand gelesen und nach der traditionellen Methode der Flaschengärung vinifiziert. The Babylonstoren Viognier shines in the glass with a golden shimmer. The South African white wine combines notes of juicy white peaches and apricots as well as apple blossom in its bouquet. This fruity, fresh bouquet is underpinned by a subtle oak spice.On the palate, the Viognier from the Cape is dry and pleasantly soft, with a beautiful depth. The makers of Babylonstore write: "Glides across the palate with a beautiful balance between the floral characteristics and the rich texture." An elegant white wine that fully brings out the advantages and distinctiveness of Viognier.20% of the white wine was fermented and matured for seven months in 300-liter second and third fill French oak barrels, 10% in large 4100-liter French oak barrels.The result is a complex and soft Viognier from South Africa with a perfect balance of fruit and wood spice, which is ideal as a food companion. Enjoy the white wine chilled at 10 to 12 degrees. It goes wonderfully with a mild chicken curry with coconut milk or a vegetable curry with turmeric and ginger as well as saffron rice.
