The Protea Cabernet Sauvignon from Anthonij Rupert Wines is an excellent example of South African wine quality at a fair price. The grapes come from the Groenekloof region in the Darling wine-growing area. Here the days are warm and the nights cool, so there is a big difference in temperature. This fact and the deep red soil with decomposed granite give the wine a unique blend of dark and red fruit aromas. The red wine is wonderfully concentrated, soft with a juicy tannin structure.On the palate, the Anthonij Rupert Protea Cabernet Sauvignon is round, soft, light and well-balanced. Fruit aromas of plum, dark berries and cherries are clearly perceptible, complemented by a delicate spicy note. The fruit notes combine wonderfully with the oak notes and end in a long, harmonious finish.Wonderful to drink solo at the end of the day. Anthonij Rupert Syrah 2017

The Anthonij Rupert Syrah comes from strictly selected vines from the Franschhoek Valley in South Africa. A pre-selection is made as early as the hand-picking stage. Only the best grapes find their way into the wine. Both the fermentation and the subsequent maturation, which lasts an average of 21 months, take place in French oak barrels. The Anthonij Rupert Syrah was then bottled unfiltered and matured for a further 2 years. The red wine has a wonderful aroma of violets, plums, raspberries and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is amazingly complex but extremely multi-faceted. Beautiful fruity notes are in harmony with spicy notes and a gently integrated tannin structure. The finish is also juicy, balanced and convincingly long.For a long evening in front of the fireplace or as an accompaniment to a festive meal, you will hardly find anything better. Open the wine at least two hours before drinking and give it some time to develop in the glass.

The Umsasane from Aslina Wines combines the characterful craftsmanship of the boutique winery Aslina Wines with the power and elegance of classic South African red wines. Made from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc and 12% Petit Verdot, the grapes were harvested by hand at optimum ripeness. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrels and then matured for 16 months in French oak barrels, 15% of which were new barrels, before being bottled.In the glass, the Umsasane has a deep red, intense color and seduces the nose with complex aromas of black cherries, apricot jam, lavender and fine herbal notes. On the palate, this red wine is elegant and multi-layered, with hints of green bell pepper, vanilla and a harmonious combination of fruit and earth. The Babylonstoren Babel Red Blend is a red wine from South Africa, which is primarily characterized by the Shiraz (Syrah) grape variety with almost 50%. The high-quality blend, matured in French oak, is completed by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Pinotage.The intense, complex bouquet of the ruby red wine combines notes of cherries, blackberries, mulberries and plums. This fruitiness harmonizes wonderfully with notes of vanilla, dark chocolate as well as lingering oak notes. Rudman recognizes "dark fruits, tobacco and hearty spices".On the palate, the Babylonstoren Babel Red Blend is dry and masterfully balanced. The blend has a full body, pleasantly soft tannins and a dense structure. The aroma is characterized by juicy, black fruits, which harmonize wonderfully with aromas of tobacco and graphite. The finish lingers for a long time.This red wine from Babylonstoren - located between Paarl and Stellenbosch, around 50 kilometers east of Cape Town - was aged for a year in 300-litre French oak barrels. Noten von dunklen Beeren (Johannisbeeren) im wunderbaren Zusammenspiel mit Noten von Wildkräutern, Graphit und Zedernholz.
