Château de Pitray Côtes de Castillon 2016

The Château de Pitray of the 2015 vintage is simply a sensation in terms of quality and good value for money. The 2015 vintage is considered the outstanding vintage in the Bordelais region. It produced the best grapes ever in the Bordeaux region’s modern history, alongside 2009 and 2010. The winery is located in Gardegan in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation with its plateaus composed of limestone and clay, situated on the right bank of the Gironde River, just 8 kilometres from Saint-Émilion. This splendid Château has been owned by the Pitray family for 600 years. It would be a worthy setting for every Harry Potter film. The remarkable limestone and clay soils provide excellent conditions for the Merlot grapes that make up 75% of this assemblage. The cuvée of the 2016 de Pitray further consists of 23% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec. In the vineyards, interventions in nature are minimised as far as possible; herbicides are not used, for example. The wine matured for 12 months in barriques and offers impressive harmony and elegance. The 2016 Château Pitray can already be enjoyed now but will be a real delight over the next 5-8 years. We recommend decanting the wine at least one hour before drinking it. The wine offers lovely aromas of dark, ripe fruit such as bilberries, blackberries and wild strawberries, wonderfully accompanied by round, fine tannins. Nothing is in the wrong place here. The notes of wood emphasise the wine’s finesse without drowning it. The 2016 Château Pitray has a well-defined, precise bouquet with blackberry and crushed strawberry fruit, the oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, not much depth here, but very well balanced with a silky smooth finish. This comes highly recommended, since it is usually well priced. The Château de Pitray 2016 is an ideal accompaniment to grilled dishes, game, meat loaf, roast beef and cheeses. It is also lovely on its own to enjoy with friends.

Château du Gazin Canon Fronsac AOC 2018

The Château du Gazin vineyards are located in the well-known Canon Fronsac appellation, north-east of Bordeaux, very close to Saint Émilion and Pomerol.On about 30 hectares of vineyards, the Robert family, now in its third generation, produces a red wine that is made of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec and does not require any sulphur. The work in the vineyard is also carried out with the minimum use of chemicals. The dry wine from France is HVE 3 certified, the highest level of natural wine production.The Château du Gazin 2018, aged for 18 months in barrels, simply blew us away and shows the wonderful fruit and intensity of the exceptional 2018 vintage. It has a deep ruby red colour. The nose shows strawberry, cassis, some nutmeg, notes of caramel and some cocoa. Round, full-bodied on the palate, with silky and fresh tannins, supported by lots of red fruit, strawberries, cherries, some pepper and mocha. The aftertaste is impressively long.Make sure you get this price-performance miracle, which cuts a fine figure both on its own and with game, braised, grilled or matured cheese.The wine critics were also enthusiastic: James Suckling: 92/100; Neil Martin in Vinous: 90/100; Beckustator: 91/100.

The vines grow on gravelly soils with limestone and clay, which give the grapes a special finesse and structure. The Château Fontesteau vineyard, known for its sustainable cultivation, produces a great red wine that harmoniously combines elegance and power.In the glass, the wine is a deep ruby red with violet reflections. The nose reveals a complex interplay of aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries and ripe cherries, accompanied by subtle hints of violets, cedar wood and roasted cocoa beans. It is full-bodied on the palate, with a fine tannin structure, well-integrated acidity and a long, spicy finish with notes of licorice and tobacco.The grapes are carefully selected and vinified traditionally. Château Fontesteau Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois Supérieur AC 2019 was matured in 75% barrique barrels, 20% of which were new. This gave it additional depth and elegance. The perfect balance of fruit and wood makes it accessible at a young age, but also gives it good ageing potential.This dry red wine is an excellent accompaniment to classic French dishes such as bœuf bourguignon, rack of lamb or duck breast. It is also an excellent choice with strong cheeses or grilled beef.For best enjoyment, a serving temperature of 16-18 °C is recommended.

Chateau Gloria 2020

Dieses Château aus der berühmten Appellation Saint Julien im Médoc ist bis heute im Familienbesitz und produziert Jahr für Jahr einen der besten Weine der Region.2020 war ein sehr guter Jahrgang in einer Reihe von Ausnahmejahrgängen (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019) und knüpft nahtlos an die Erfolge dieser Weine an.65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot und 5% Cabernet Franc stellen die Assemblage dieses Cru Bourgeois.Noch etwas verschlossen, ist hier viel Frucht und Beerigkeit vorhanden; dazu Tabak, Rauch, Grafit, Brombeeren, Cassis und Veilchen. Sehr klassischer Saint Julien-Gaumen, der sich zwischen Pauillac Power und Struktur und Eleganz einpendelt. Deutliche, saftige Tannine, die aber noch schmelziger werden. Weine vom Château Gloria haben ein gutes Alterungspotential und brauchen etwas Geduld. Der Abgang ist lang und aromatisch.Trinkreif ab voraussichtlich 2027, dann aber mit einer "Mindestlaufzeit" von einem Vierteljahrhundert.Winespectator: 93-96/100 Punkte; James Suckling: 94/100 Punkte; René Gabriel: 17/20 Punkte (mit Aussicht auf mehr).

Château Guillon-Nardou Bordeaux AOP 2015

Dieser Rotwein aus der AOC Francs-Côtes de Bordeaux ist eine Assemblage aus 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc und 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Die Rebstöcke, auf bestem Kalk-Sandstein Terroir gelegen, sind im Schnitt 30 Jahre alt. Michel und Rina Guillon sind die Besitzer dieses uralten Familienbetriebs, der 10 ha Rebgarten umfasst und seit vier Generationen von Vater zu Sohn weitergegeben wird.Dem Wein merkt man die Hingabe seiner Schöpfer an. Im Glas begrüßt uns ein tiefes und funkelndes Dunkelrot. Der Guillon-Nardou zeigt eine reiche Palette von dunklen Beeren, Johannisbeeren und Brombeeren, etwas Cassis und Tabak. Am Gaumen sehr rund und voluminös, mit schöner Struktur und sehr geschliffenen Tanninen. Der Nachhall ist wunderbar lang.Ein toller „Every-day“-Bordeaux, mit einem sagenhaften Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Er ist jetzt nach etwa einer Stunde Dekantieren trinkreif, ist aber mindestens noch bis 2025 in seinem Zenit.Zu Wild, Pasta, gereiftem Käse oder mit Freunden eine echte Empfehlung!

Diese Preis-Leistungs-Sensation stammt aus dem Herzen des Entre-deux-Mers in Bordeaux, gelegen zwischen den Flüssen Garonne und Dordogne. Gerade in dieser Region entstehen in besonderen Jahrgängen Weine, die nicht zu unterschätzen sind und viel Potential offenbaren. Der Spruch „in guten Jahren kleine Châteaus kaufen“ wird durch diesen Rebsaft mehr als bestätigt.Wir haben es hier mit einem wunderbar saftigen, zugänglichen und fruchtigen Vertreter Bordeaux zu tun, dessen Cuvée aus 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon und 10% Cabernet Franc besteht.Die Familie Chevillard, Eigentümer von Janoy-Bellevue, legt Wert darauf, dass die Weine früh konsumierbar sind und nicht zu stark im Fass ausgebaut werden. Ein eher klassischer Bordeaux, der uns durch seine Frische und Fruchtigkeit überzeugte. Viel attraktive Frucht also, insbesondere Blaubeeren, Kirschen, Pflaumen und ein Hauch von weißem Pfeffer bestimmen das Aromenbild. Die Tannine sind schön schmelzig und ergänzen sich sehr harmonisch mit der feinen Säure zu einem tollen Gesamtpaket, das durchaus nicht nur Bordeaux-Einsteigern gefallen dürfte.

Château Labégorce, located at the northern end of Margaux, is back on the map of the great wines of this appellation, and the 2018 vintage is no exception, quite the contrary. The vineyard extends over 70 hectares of vines, surrounded by such prestigious neighbors as Château Margaux and Château Lascombes.The cuvée consists of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The wine matures for 12-14 months in French oak barrels, 40-50% of which are new barrels. In the glass, Château Labégorce 2018 is a deep purple-garnet with a black center. The bouquet seduces with intense aromas of ripe blackcurrants, cherries and cassis, accompanied by spicy notes such as tobacco, exotic woods and a hint of liquorice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with a silky texture and well-integrated, fine-grained tannins. The finish is long and characterized by a subtle fruity sweetness and a pleasant freshness.Château Labégorce 2018 harmonizes perfectly with hearty dishes such as grilled beef, lamb chops, game dishes or stews. Matured cheese or black pudding also go well with this wine. For a special taste experience, we recommend pairing it with truffle aioli chicken hearts or wild boar with wild herb sauce.This wine has excellent ageing potential. Consisting of 46% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, Château Labégorce is a model wine from the Margaux appellation with a great price-performance ratio. 2019 was a particularly good year on the left bank of the Gironde, enabling this vineyard, located on the northern edge of Margaux, to produce an exceptional grape juice of great precision and intensity.The 2019 Labégorce was matured in French oak, 40% of which was new barrels.
