The Allesverloren Red Muscadel (also known as Red Moscatel) is a fascinating sweet wine from Swartland in South Africa, made from 100% Muscat grapes. Boplaas Hanepoot 2024

The Boplaas Cape Hanepoot is made from low-yielding Hanepoot vines that were planted around thirty years ago by Oupa Danie Nel, the father of the current winemaker. Harvested by hand at optimum ripeness, the grapes are fermented naturally for four days in traditional lagars, with regular, gentle pigeage every four hours. After enrichment with fine wine distillate, the young Hanepoot matures for six months in stainless steel tanks before being carefully blended and bottled.In the glass, it shines lemon yellow with a lime green rim. Intense aromas of ripe muscatel grapes, pineapple, lemon peel and lychee unfold on the nose, accompanied by delicate floral notes and a hint of spice. Boplaas Red Muscadel 2025

The Boplaas Red Muscadel comes from the traditional Boplaas wine estate, which has been closely associated with the production of high-quality Muscat wines since the mid-19th century. This grape variety, Muscat de Frontignan, forms the historical basis of the South African Muscat tradition and is at the heart of Boplaas wine production. Only in exceptional vintages are the grapes from low-yielding, selected vineyards harvested by hand and processed into this characterful Red Muscadel.The grapes are harvested in the early hours of the morning, pressed in traditional lagares and left on the skins for three days, with intensive manual pigeages. The natural fermentation is stopped by spraying, which releases the complex variety of aromas that characterize the Boplaas Red Muscadel.In the glass, it is a bright crimson red and captivates with aromas of cranberry, mulberry, fresh strawberry jam, jasmine, rooibos and the typical nutmeg spice. The Glenwood Grand Duc Noblesse from the Glenwood vineyard is an exceptional sweet wine made from 29-year-old vines that thrive on the well-drained soils of Clovelly and Avalon. Without artificial irrigation, the grapes slowly develop their full aroma.Before pressing, they undergo an additional selection process to guarantee the highest quality. Only the best, noble rotten berries are used. After pressing, the juice is filled into small, selected French oak barrels with a capacity of 225 liters, where it is fermented and fermentation is stopped naturally at 130 g of residual sugar per liter.The result is a harmonious sweet wine with a golden yellow color and seductive notes of nuts, honey and citrus fruits, with subtle similarities to the famous Sauternes. Konstant bewegt sich der Süßwein aus Südafrika in der internationalen Weinkritik um die exzellente Marke von 95 Punkten. Und auch der Jahrgang 2019 ist ein Beispiel herausragender Weinbaukunst.Das Bouquet des hellgold strahlenden Vin de Constance 2019 ist faszinierend vielschichtig. Intensive, einnehmend fruchtige Noten von Pfirsich, Mirabellen, Aprikosen und Quitten im wundervollen Zusammenspiel mit Noten von Orangenschalen und Zitrusblüten. Dazu unterschwellige, perfekt harmonierende Nuancen von Hyazinthen, Honig, Vanille, Muskatnuss und Spekulatius. Subtile nussige Aromen durchdringen die Düfte von wildem Honig und Quitte, Wachsharz und Lanolin.“Am Gaumen ist Südafrikas herausragender Süßwein perfekt ausgewogen zwischen Süße und Säure, sodass ein scheinbar trockener Stil entsteht. „Ein hervorragender Vin de Constance unter der Leitung von Matt Day, der dem, was man verwirrenderweise einen nicht süßen Dessertwein nennen könnte, einen Schritt näher kommt“, schreibt Galloni.Die komplexe Aromendichte zieht in ihren Bann: Getrocknete Aprikosen und Mandarinen, Ingwer und Eichenwürze, später weißer Pfeffer und Schokoladenmousse.
