A „perfect” ripening season with full crop yields, and restrained sugar levels led to outstanding wines from Washington state’s Columbia Valley.

Vintage delayed slightly by cool spring weather and a moderate summer, harvest began 10 days later than normal. Warm weather in August provided ideal ripening conditions for grapes across all varietals and harvest was quickly ramped up in order to obtain fruit at the optimum ripeness.

Ripe grapes were destemmed and inoculated with various strains of yeast to maximize complexity. Gentle pumpovers during fermentation were used to extract colour and flavour and produce soft, supple tannins. Aged 16 months in American and French oak, 32% new.

Delicious with bleu cheese, duck, beef, veal and dark chocolate.

Chateau Ste. Michelle ist die älteste Weinkellerei im Staat Washington. Das 1934 gegründete Weingut der Region Chateau Ste. Michelle kombiniert erfolgreich traditionelle Weinbereitung mit innovativen 'Neue-Welt'-Methoden. Das Ergebnis sind außergewöhnliche Weine und Ste. Michelle ist heute der größte Riesling Produzent weltweit. Während die Rotweine in der River Ridge Winery, im Süden des Columbia Valleys angebaut werden, findet man die Produktion der Weißweine in Woodinville, 15 Meilen nordöstlich von Seattle. Chateau Ste. Michelle produziert insgesamt zwei Millionen Flaschen an Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot und Riesling und pflegt in der Weinbereitung erfolgreiche Partnerschaften. Ein erfolgreiches Produkt einer dieser Partnerschaften ist der Eroica Riesling mit dem Moselweingut Ernst Loosen.
