This Cabernet Sauvignon from the Livermore Valley shows an intense bouquet hinting of ripe black cherries, juicy red plums and cassis, rounded off by fine nuances of mocha and a subtle spice. The Wente Southern Hills Cabernet Sauvignon is sumptuous and full-bodied on the palate, with defining, well-integrated tannins and a long, elegant finish.

This Cabernet from the southern hills of the Livermore Valley matured for 16 months in both new and used French and Eastern European oak casks. In addition to Cabernet Sauvignon, the Californian Wente Vineyards estate unites smaller percentages of Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, Malbec and Tempranillo to create this blend. It has the naturally beautiful, floral and tropical notes of a Riesling but is stylistically fuller than German Rieslings. On the nose, it has aromas of fresh jasmine, tangerine and some pear. On the palate, it has a good balance between light sweetness and sufficient acidity. The wine is cold-pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the natural aromas of tropical flowers. The fruit for Sandstone Merlot comes from a gently sloping formation of hills running along the southeastern corner of the famous Livermore Valley. The Wente family’s hillside Merlot vineyards deliver fully ripened fruit with exceptional depth of character.With a smooth mouthfeel and inviting tannins, this Merlot exhibits flavors of strawberry, cherry, blackberryand fig with hints of toast, brown sugar and spice, with a long luscious finish.Each varietal was harvested separately and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine was pumped over twice daily to increases the color and tannin extractions and improves mouthfeel through the integration of oxygen.
