Château Charmail, located in the north of the Médoc, is the neighbor of Sociando-Mallet and has an exceptionally good terroir close to the Gironde. Formerly dormant, this estate woke up a few decades ago and produces fresh and fruity wines that have propelled Château Charmail into the top league of the Left Bank. It is important to bear in mind that the prices for this grape juice are still more than moderate, making Charmail one of the absolute price-performance winners in the whole of Bordeaux. The 2019 vintage is also exceptionally successful and is considered part of the century trilogy (2018-2020).

A wonderfully deep ruby red glows in the glass. On the nose, the typically delicate fruit of Château Charmail, with cassis, blackberries, redcurrants and a hint of elderberry. On the palate, the red and blueberry character intensifies, framed by tobacco, licorice, leather and a little graphite, as well as mint and cedar. Everything is very fresh and harmonious, with good structure and race and some residual sweetness, which balances wonderfully with the intense fruit. Although the tannins are present, they are not over-represented, but appear polished and polished. The finish is extremely long.

In der Kommune Saint Seurin de Cadourne, als direkter Nachbar von Sociando Mallet, liegt das Château Charmail. Es zählt noch zur Appellation Haut-Médoc, liegt aber direkt an der Grenze zu Saint-Estèphe. Das Rebland wird seit dem 17. Jahrhundert bewirtschaftet und durchlebte eine wechselvolle Geschichte, bevor Monsieur Olivier Seze im Jahre 1982 Charmail übernahm.

Monsieur Seze setzte die entscheidenden Akzente, um Charmail in der Spitzengruppe der Haut-Médoc Weine zu etablieren: Kaltmazeration, Ernte von Hand und grüne Lese, hier gilt Seze als einer der Pioniere, trugen entscheidend dazu bei, Charmail auf ein hohes Qualitätsniveau zu heben.

Und das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis für Château Charmail ist angesichts der erzielten Resultate, die ein Abonnement für gute Parker- und Gabrielnoten zu haben scheinen, sensationell. Selbst in herausragenden Jahren bleibt Château Charmail meist unter 20 Euro. Die Assemblage besteht aus etwas mehr Merlot als Cabernet Sauvignon, was dazu beiträgt, dass die Weine des etwa 28 ha großen Gutes schon früh zugänglich sind. Unterstützt werden diese klassischen Rebsorten durch etwas Cabernet Franc und ein wenig Petit Verdot der im Schnitt 30 Jahre alten Reben.

Bei Château Charmail legt man Wert darauf - das Wortspiel sei uns verziehen - charmante Weine zu produzieren, die durch Fruchtigkeit, seidige Tannine und Aromenfülle überzeugen. Die umfangreichen Investitionen der letzten Jahre in Keller und Weinbereitung sind ein Garant dafür, dass auch in der Zukunft viel von diesem bemerkenswerten Gut zu erwarten ist.

Château Charmail is known for producing wines that very often score significantly higher than their price would suggest. Charmail, classified as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, was taken over by Oliver Seze in the 1980s and underwent a "horse cure" of renewal until the wines once again reached the level of the terroir on which its vines grow. As a neighbor of Sociando-Mallet and Phélan-Ségur, the Gironde is not far away and the wine is now one of the best in the Haut-Médoc. Seze is still active as a consultant, but has handed over the vineyard to Bernard d'Halluin and his daughter Marie.2018 is the first year of the "dream trilogy" 2018, 2019 and 2020, which produced outstanding wines in the Bordelais. The cuvée consists of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot.The appeal of this wine lies in its creaminess and fine fruit, with underlying sweet aromas. Blue and black berries, cassis, tobacco and chocolate delight the nose. Silky on the palate, with a medium-full body, toasty notes from the wood, which do not dominate, and polished tannins. The finish is long lasting.This elegant and balanced Haut-Médoc is already ready to drink, but only after about an hour of decanting. However, it should still have a span of at least 15 years ahead of it, provided it is stored properly, of course.The 2018 offers a great drinking experience at an excellent price-performance ratio. The Château La Commanderie is a cuvée made of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot. The grapes for this classical Saint-Estèphe, in the Cru Bourgeois range, come from vines that are more than 30 years old. The wine matured for 12 months in French oak casks.The vines for the 2017 La Commanderie grew in the highest vineyards with gravel soils located in the village of Saint-Estèphe. The wine is a typical example of this outstanding vintage in the Bordeaux region. It is already very enjoyable but will further improve over the next 8-10 years. The Château La Commanderie is beguiling on the nose, offering lovely, spicy aromas and fragrances of red and dark berries, cherries, pepper and polish. On the palate, it has an impressive abundance of fruit and silky, very well integrated tannins and a lovely long finish, showing subtle hints of mint and herbs.This charming Saint-Estèphe goes beautifully with beef, steaks, lamb, game and various cheeses. We recommend decanting the wine 1-2 hours before drinking it.

Château Lanessan Haut-Médoc

Bereits 1793 kaufte der Bordelaiser Weinhändler Jean Delbos das Rebland auf außerordentlich gutem Terroir, gelegen zwischen so renommierten Châteaux wie Gruaud-Larose und Beychevelle. Der trockene Rotwein wird vom Cabernet Sauvignon dominiert, mit etwa 1/3 Anteil Merlot und etwas Petit Verdot.Ein ganz klassischer und typischer Haut-Médoc Bordeaux, der durchaus etwas Lagerung verträgt und bis zum Jahre 2030 immer noch weiter zulegen wird. Paz Espejo, die im Jahre 2009 als Managerin das Gut übernommen hat, hat mit dem 2016er Jahrgang eine kleine Wein-Ikone geschaffen, die dem traditionellen Bild Bordeauxs huldigt. Gute Frucht, mittlerer Körper, durchaus präsente Tannine, viel rote Beeren, Kirsche, Cassis und eine wahre Fundgrube von Waldnoten bestimmen den Charakter des Château Lanessan Haut-Médoc, der dem Jahrgang entsprechend eine Hohe Qualität bietet. Der Abgang ist beeindruckend lang. Dieser noch sehr junge Wein aus Frankreich profitiert von einer Dekantierung von 1-2 Stunden und passt hervorragend zu Lamm, Steak, Hack- oder Schmorbraten.

Château Le Boscq Saint-Estèphe Cru Bourgeois AOC

Château Le Boscq ist Cru Buorgeois Exceptionel aus der nördlichsten Appellation des Médoc am linken Ufer von Bordeaux, nämlich aus Saint-Estèphe. Die Weine aus dieser Region gelten als besonders charaktervoll und langlebig; wenn dann noch ein Traum-Jahrgang wie 2019 hinzukommt, steht einem großartigen Bordeaux-Erlebnis nichts mehr im Wege. Die Assemblage besteht zu 46% aus Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot und 2% Cabernet Franc; Château Le Boscq reifte für 12 Monate in französischen Eichenfässern nach. Das Auge zeigt bereits die Tiefgründigkeit dieses Weines; ein rot-schwarzes Rubingranat mit violetten Reflexen. In der Nase sehr expressive Schwarzbeerigkeit, Edelholzwürze, Cassis, Bleistift, Blaubeere, Maulbeeren und Kirsche. Dazu gesellen sich Waldfrüchte am Gaumen, Lakritz und viel Würze. Der Nachklang hält ausgesprochen lange an. Ein sehr intensives Weinerlebnis, mit Tanninen, die noch ausreifen müssen. Dieser Wein benötigt noch einige Zeit Ruhe, um zur vollen Genussreife und Entfaltung zu gelangen, was nicht untypisch für die Weine aus Saint-Estèphe ist.

2020 wurde Château Malescasse in den Rang eines Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel gehoben, die höchste Stufe, die es innerhalb dieser Klassifikation zu erreichen gilt."Schuld" daran dürfte auch der 2014 Malescasse sein, der als erster Jahrgang unter Mitwirkung des Star-Önologen Stéphane Derononcourt entstand. 54% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon und 10% Petit Verdot machen eine im besten Sinne runde Assemblage aus, wobei die malolaktische Gärung im Holzfass stattfand, bei 35% Neufassanteil und der Wein schließlich für volle 14 Monate in den Fässern nachreifen durfte.Eine rubinrote Farbe begrüßt uns, in der ausdrucksstarken Nase begegnen uns Schwarze Johannisbeere, Brombeere und Himbeere, alle mit einer schönen, reifen Note. Aromen von Röstmokka verleihen dem Wein eine große Eleganz und Komplexität. Am Gaumen sehr rund und stoffig, mit einem perfekten Spiel von Säure und Alkohol. Die Tannine sind seidig und führen zum ausgesprochen langanhaltenden und intensiven Ausklang hin.Wir empfehlen, den Wein mindestens eine halbe Stunde lang zu dekantieren.

The Château Fontesteau vineyard, known for its sustainable cultivation, produces a great red wine that harmoniously combines elegance and power.In the glass, the wine is a deep ruby red with violet reflections. The nose reveals a complex interplay of aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries and ripe cherries, accompanied by subtle hints of violets, cedar wood and roasted cocoa beans. It is full-bodied on the palate, with a fine tannin structure, well-integrated acidity and a long, spicy finish with notes of licorice and tobacco.The grapes are carefully selected and vinified traditionally. Chateau Belgrave Haut Medoc Grand Cru Classe

Eine sehr gute Struktur und ein langer Abgang imponieren und verdeutlichen, dass der Wein gut und gerne noch 20-30 Jahre auf dem Höhepunkt sein kann.Lamm, rotes Fleisch, Wild, Steak, Ente oder Hartkäse begleiten diesen Ausnahme-Haut-Médoc besonders gut.
