Clos Saint Jean Les Calades IGP 2025

Les Calades is a red wine from the well-known Clos Saint Jean winery, the producer of outstanding Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines from France. Although this wine is not officially called Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it is an exceptionally high-quality red wine that the Maurel family, now the fifth generation to own Clos Saint Jean, produces with the same dedication and commitment as its larger wine brothers. The grapes for Les Calades are harvested by hand and during the harvest period, the grapes are tested daily to ensure that they are at the right ripeness so that the best time for harvesting can be chosen. Careful work is carried out in the cellar, e.g. using pneumatic presses to protect the grapes. Les Calades is matured in concrete tanks for nine months. As with the other wines from Clos Saint Jean, this cuvée, which consists of 70% Grenache and 30% Caladoc, is bottled according to the lunar calendar. This spicy, fragrant Châteauneuf-du-Pape impresses with plenty of dark fruit, with notes of currants, cherries, blackberries and plums. Overall, the ripe fruit bouquet is in the foreground here, as aromas of strawberry and some raspberry follow, with further hints of forest scents, licorice, mocha and mint. The palate offers a harmonious overall impression of good acidity, beautifully polished and well-integrated tannins and a lovely finish.A sophisticated red wine that goes well with many Mediterranean dishes, but also with somewhat heartier and spicier dishes such as pasta, game, braised meat or goulash.
