Hensel Höhenflug Cuvée red wine 2020

The Hensel Höhenflug Cuvée red wine proves that the international grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah can also produce outstanding wines in Germany.Strictly selected grapes from the estate's best vineyards are blended together to create this cuvée. The wine smells of clove pepper and has notes of hot black pepper. This is accompanied by notes of sour cherries and dried leaves.The maturation in heavily toasted wooden barrels also gives the Höhenflug Cuvée red wine a fine woody note, which is surrounded by cassis, elderberry and blackberry. On the palate, the wine is incredibly multi-layered and complex.Despite its power, the Höhenflug Cuvée is wonderfully balanced and finishes with aromas of tobacco and vanilla. Hensel Höhenflug Merlot 2020

The Merlot grape is one of the most popular grape varieties ever and is cultivated almost all over the world. It is, however, very difficult to make a top-quality wine from these grapes. With its Höhenflug Merlot, the Hensel winery succeeded in this. The grapes for this wine are harvested as late as possible to capture the last rays of sunshine of the year, resulting in a very concentrated wine that is an intense cherry-red in colour. The wine has a wonderful bouquet offering fragrances of ripe morello cherries and bilberries, complemented by nuances of elder and slightly smoky notes. On the palate, the Hensel Höhenflug Merlot shows lots of melt and an exotic spice. This Merlot was aged in new barriques, giving the wine noticeable but soft tannins, richness and powerful body. This is a red wine from the Palatinate to fall in love with.Try the Hensel Höhenflug Merlot with duck breast or fried chicken. It is also an ideal accompaniment to various cheeses.

Hensel Ikarus red wine 2020

The Hensel Ikarus is the flagship of the Thomas Hensel winery and a prime example of the innovative strength of the Palatinate wine scene. Great wines also need great names. So the name derived from Greek mythology is a good choice for the Hensel Ikarus. The wine is only vinified in years with exceptional grapes and is made from the Cabernet Cubin grape variety. This is a new variety from 1970, which is based on a cross between the Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties. The Hensel winery in the Palatinate experimented with this grape variety at an early stage. This is why some of the vines are over 40 years old. Although this results in lower yields, the grapes are particularly powerful.The Hensel Ikarus shimmers dark in the glass and has a full berry flavor. The red wine needs some time to open up, so decanting is advisable. Once the wine has opened up, however, the palate experiences ripe berry fruit, an intense coffee note and a tasty tobacco aroma. We recommend a drinking temperature of 16-18 °C.Hensel Ikarus reveals its great potential through its athletic tannins. The Hensel und Gretel Cuvée Rotwein (red wine) is another joint project realised by the wine-makers Thomas Hensel and Markus Schneider. The wine-makers from the Palatinate share not only a deep friendship, but their passion for creating great wines as well. Thus it’s no surprise that they collaborated in the creation of the Hensel and Gretel Rotwein (red wine), amongst others. Both of them are particularly fond of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety, which predominates in this red wine. The wine is a powerful deep red in the glass. On the nose, it is redolent of cocoa, vanilla, blackberries, cassis and dark cherries. The Hensel and Gretel Rotwein (red wine) is elegant and round on the palate, with wonderfully integrated tannins. The dry, boldly spicy wine has a fruity finish.The versatile Hensel and Gretel Rotwein (red wine) is an ideal accompaniment to pizza, pasta and similar dishes. It is also lovely to enjoy on its own – ideal for a cosy evening at home.

Knipser Cuvée X 2020

The Knipser Cuvée X from the Knipser winery impresses with a multi-faceted bouquet with spicy notes of cassis, tobacco, coffee and cedar. On the palate, the dry composition of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc is dense and intense, with ripe, perfectly integrated tannins and impressive length.The grapes grow in the best vineyards of the Knipser winery in the Palatinate, which are characterized by limestone. Through short pruning and the so-called "green harvest" - the targeted thinning out of unripe grapes in summer - the yield is reduced in order to produce a particularly concentrated and elegant red wine.
