"Monumental": that's what the makers of Castello di Fonterutoli themselves write about their Mazzei Siepi 2020. And what can we say: they're right. The red wine from Tuscany is an outstanding creation. The blend of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Merlot from the Chianti Classico region has enchanted international wine critics. "An exceptionally beautiful wine. I love it," says Decanter (98 points), for example, while Monica Larner writes in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (95 points): "The Mazzei 2020 Siepi is a magnificent vintage."The bouquet of the Italian red wine seduces with its complexity and the wonderful interplay of fruit, spice and floral notes. "Graphite and pencil come through, along with violets and blackberries. Also some tar and asphalt," writes James Suckling, who awards 98. Castello di Fonterutoli itself discovers crunchy elderberries, plums, berries, sandalwood and tobacco on the nose, while Decanter says of the bouquet: "Dried herbs and sweet spices on the nose, forest notes with blackberry fruit, concentrated and expressive." Cherry notes also characterize the bouquet.On the palate, the Mazzei Siepi 2020 is dry, wonderfully soft and at the same time crisp and fresh, with impressive elegance and depth. The fruitiness is fascinating. "Such a smooth transition on the palate, the tannins glide over the tongue and give the sweet strawberry, raspberry and plum fruit time to expand in the mouth," enthuses Decanter. Aromas of blueberry and blackberry also enrich the play of flavors. Everything is round and in perfect balance, with a fabulous length.This Super Tuscan matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, 70% of which were new barrels. The Merlot was matured in barriques (225 liter barrels), the Sangiovese in tonneaux (500 liter barrels). The blend was then aged for three months in cement tanks.The Mazzei Siepi 2020 is already a real treat. However, it has enormous ageing potential. Suckling writes: "Already ready to drink, but will age gracefully for decades." The makers of Castello di Fonterutoli expect it to age for more than 20 years.Enjoy the Mazzei family's creation with a fine blue cheese. More pleasure is not possible.

‘Mea Culpa’ means ‘my fault’. Mario Minini from the Cantine Minini estate used this expression ironically to name his outstanding red wine. In his opinion, he created the best cuvée that can be made using the Appassimento method.The Mea Culpa Vino Rosso in an extraordinary wine in all respects. The Primitivo, Shiraz and Merlot grapes for the Appassimento cuvée come from two very different wine-growing regions in Italy. The Primitivo grapes come from Apulia, of course, while the Shiraz and Merlot grapes come from Sicily, wonderfully uniting to create this excellent blend. The responsible wine-maker Mario Minini and his team of oenologists worked on the optimal composition of this blend for a long time. The result is a medium-dry red wine, offering an abundance of aromas on the nose.Fine notes of chocolate, nuances of tobacco and strong fruit aromas of blackberries, strawberries and dark cherries unite with notes of mocha and vanilla. On the palate, the wine shows a vivid acidity and a fine tannin structure. The full but elegant body has an exquisite structure. Due to the ageing in 225-litre oak casks made of French oak, the Mea Culpa Vino Rosso offers notes of vanilla and tobacco in its finish.It is an ideal accompaniment to meals. Meerlust Merlot 2022

The Meerlust Merlot comes from the traditional Meerlust Estate in Stellenbosch - a wine estate that has been synonymous with top South African wines for centuries. This single-varietal Merlot cuvée impressively demonstrates how complex and long-lasting the grape variety can be vinified in the cooler locations of the Cape Winelands.The wine shines a deep ruby red in the glass. Intense aromas of black plums, dark cherries and fine herbs unfold on the nose, accompanied by hints of mocha, tobacco and subtle spice. On the palate, the Merlot is powerful and juicy with ripe, dark fruit flavors and a present but elegant acidity. Notes of cherry tobacco, black pepper and delicate wood provide multi-layered depth. The finish is long, structured and supported by fine-grained tannins - a wine with excellent ageing potential.The wine is aged for a total of 18 months: first, the individual vineyards are vinified separately and matured in small French barriques. After blending, the wine is matured further in oak, with around 40% new wood being used. The wine is then further refined in the bottle before being sold.Meerlust Merlot is an excellent accompaniment to braised lamb, fillet of beef with mushroom jus, mature hard cheese or pasta with dark sauces. Miles Mossop pursues a clear philosophy: grapes from exceptional vineyards are harvested at the optimum point of ripeness and accompanied through the natural winemaking process to produce expressive, individual wines.This Stellenbosch heritage cuvée consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot from carefully selected vineyards. The grapes are harvested by hand, sorted and fermented spontaneously in wooden and stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, the wine matures for up to 20 months in old French oak barrels to develop depth and structure while retaining the freshness and purity of the grapes.In the glass, the Miles Mossop Introduction Red is a deep garnet red.
