Groot Constantia Rosé

The rosé from Groot Constantia in Constantia, Western Cape, combines the freshness of white grape varieties with the rich fruitiness of red grapes to create an elegant and well-balanced cuvée. The historic Groot Constantia winery is considered one of South Africa’s oldest and has been producing high-quality wines for more than 300 years. The Mediterranean climate, with the cooling influence of the Atlantic Ocean, along with the region’s diverse granite and clay soils, creates ideal conditions for expressive and harmonious wines.

The grapes are hand-harvested and gently cold-fermented in stainless steel tanks. The rosé wine is then aged on its fine lees for two months, further enhancing its freshness and delicate aromas.

In the glass, the Groot Constantia Rosé reveals seductive aromas of ripe strawberries, juicy melon, and citrus fruits, accompanied by subtle notes of raspberries and green apple. On the palate, it is fresh, juicy, and lively, with an invigorating acidity and a harmonious finish.

A versatile pairing, this South African rosé goes exceptionally well with light salads, pasta and rice dishes, as well as fish and seafood. It pairs particularly well with shrimp dishes or Mediterranean appetizers. Its optimal serving temperature is 10 °C.

Spier Signature Pinotage
The Pinotage vines from the Spier vineyard are planted in rows facing north-east to south-east and are therefore never exposed to the bright afternoon sun. This prevents the grapes from overheating and developing overly spicy aromas. The proximity to the sea, which is only about 8 kilometers away, is also helpful. A low harvest of 50 hectolitres per hectare gives the grapes plenty of intensity and the wine has enough strength and depth to mature in wooden barrels. Fermentation at no more than 25 °C ensures plenty of fruit. 40% of the wine matures in French or American oak barrels, giving this Pinotage a pleasant vanilla flavor without losing the fruit.Deep cherry red in the glass, the bouquet smells of delicious fresh fruit, cherries and coconut. There are also various spices such as pepper, vanilla, leather and tobacco notes. On the palate, a fresh and refined taste: soft and creamy, with lots of cherry, raspberry, tobacco and a hint of smokiness, robust in the aftertaste, beautiful and spicy. The Spier Signature Pinotage is delicious with a classic burger, crispy roast turkey, roast suckling pig with fruity barbecue sauce or roast eggplants. Our chocolate tip: Try a white chocolate with coconut notes with this South African red wine.
