Die Weinfarm Vergelegen (Ferngelegen) wurde 1700 durch Adrian van der Stell gegründet. Er war der Sohn von Simon van der Stell, dem ersten Gouverneur von Kapstadt, welcher Stellenbosch bzw. Simonsberg seinen Namen verlieh.

Seit Mitte der 80er Jahre zeichnet ein Investor aus dem Minengeschäft, für die unter Kulturschutz stehende Farm verantwortlich und ließ sie zu ihrer einstigen Pracht aufblühen.

The Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon is a single-varietal top red wine from Stellenbosch in South Africa, vinified by star winemaker Abrie Beeslaar. The vines, which are over 30 years old, grow on weathered granite and Hutton soils and produce exceptionally concentrated grapes with a low yield.After traditional mash fermentation in open concrete fermenters and manual punching down of the mash, the red wine matured for 24 months in French oak (50% new). The result is a Cabernet Sauvignon of great depth, structure and elegance.It shines a deep garnet red in the glass.
