Haute Cabrière Pinot Noir Reserve

4 out of 5 stars from South Africa's wine pope John Platter for this Haute Cabrière Pinot Noir Reserve.

The Pinot Noir has an intense aroma of dark berries and forest floor, with an underlying barrique note, nuances of tobacco and a fine spiciness. Wonderfully fruity on the palate, with gentle tannins and beautifully integrated acidity.

Enjoy this wonderful creation with game birds, mild cheeses or on its own. Chill slightly before drinking.

Product recommendation

Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir
The low-vigour, stony, clay-rich soil, cool maritime mesoclimate, naturally tiny yields of under 30 hl/ha and the philosophy of expressing our terroir in the wines give rise to a certain tightness, tannin line and elevated length to balance the richness and generosity of this Pinot Noir. The Pinot Noir is not overtly fruity, soft and sweet and it generally shows hints of that alluring primal character along with a dark, spicy, complex primary fruit perfume.Suitable for vegans.

Meerlust Rubicon
Rubicon is the flagship wine from Meerlust Wine Estate. This intense and elegant wine shows everything: complexity and depth that are so characteristic of Meerlust wines. The dry red wine from South Africa is full and rich in flavor with creamy, concentrated fruit. Juicy and lively tannins and earthy tones.A super dark ruby red in the glass, almost opaque. A light orange hue shimmers at the edge of the glass. A smoky aroma rises to the nose. Then, with a little air, the bouquet develops into dark berries, yet not overloaded, but fresh and clear. The Rubicon is an intense experience on the palate. The fruity notes from the nose are echoed on the palate and are reminiscent of black cherry and blackcurrant. This is followed by aromas reminiscent of a cigar box. Enormous concentration and complexity on the palate. With juicy tannins. Further aromas can be perceived, reminiscent of milk chocolate, cocoa, then plums and blueberries, but also sweetish roasted aromas. There is also a hint of tobacco. And a fine spicy character in the long finish. The vineyards of Meerlust extend on a steep strip on the western flank of the Helderberg, in the south of the Stellenbosch region, about 5 kilometers from False Bay, from which a cool breeze always blows.
