The Eikehof Chardonnay from the traditional Eikehof Wine Estate embodies the tranquillity and elegance of the Cape Winelands. Nestled in the shade of ancient oak trees west of Franschhoek, this wine reflects the rich history of the Malherbe family, who have been making wine on the estate since 1903. Today, Francois Malherbe is the fourth generation to carry on his great-grandfather's legacy - in the same historic cellars where wine has been made for over a century.

This unwood-aged Chardonnay develops a lively bouquet of green apple, tangy lemon and a hint of lime in the glass, which immediately conveys freshness and clarity. On the palate, it is smooth, medium to full-bodied, with an elegant, lively finish that harmoniously carries the fruitiness and makes the wine a perfect companion for sunny moments.

Served slightly chilled at 8-10 °C, the Eikehof Chardonnay is ideal with grilled vegetables, light fish dishes, seafood or simply as a refreshing aperitif on warm days.

Eikehof ist ein familiengeführtes Boutique-Weingut im südafrikanischen Franschhoek Valley in der renommierten Weinregion Western Cape. Das Weingut liegt an der bekannten Weinroute nahe La Motte und ist seit 1903 im Besitz der Familie Malherbe. Heute führt François Malherbe das traditionsreiche Gut bereits in vierter Generation und produziert seine Weine noch immer im historischen Weinkeller der Familie.

Die rund 23 bis 58 Hektar große Farm ist von alten Eichenbäumen geprägt, die dem Weingut auch seinen Namen geben („Eikehof“ bedeutet sinngemäß „Hof der Eichen“). Besonders bekannt ist das Gut für seine historischen Sémillon-Reben aus dem Jahr 1902 – einer der ältesten noch produzierenden Weinberge Südafrikas.

Eikehof setzt auf eine handwerkliche, qualitätsorientierte Weinproduktion in kleinen Mengen. Nur ein Teil der auf dem Gut angebauten Trauben wird für die eigene Vinifikation verwendet, wodurch ein überschaubares Portfolio charakterstarker Weine entsteht. Das Weingut verbindet traditionelle Methoden mit moderner Kellertechnik und legt großen Wert auf authentischen Ausdruck des Franschhoek-Terroirs.

Als kleines Familienweingut steht Eikehof für persönliche Gastfreundschaft, sorgfältige Handarbeit und hochwertige südafrikanische Weine mit regionalem Charakter.

The Eikendal Janina Unwooded Chardonnay is a fresh Chardonnay vinified in stainless steel tanks that impresses with its lively fruit and clear structure. With enticing aromas of green apple, lemon and juicy pineapple, it develops fine nuances of honey and orange blossom on the palate, which are reflected in a refreshing, stony finish.This exceptional Chardonnay comes from carefully selected, north-facing vineyards on the Helderberg in South Africa, which grow on weathered granite and Table Mountain sandstone. The maritime climate with cool Atlantic breezes provides ideal conditions, giving the wine its fresh acidity and aromatic complexity. Three different Chardonnay clones are used for the wine, which together produce a harmonious and multi-layered structure.The grapes are carefully harvested by hand and gently pressed as whole bunches to preserve their natural fruitiness. Gentle fermentation in stainless steel tanks, cement and plastic eggs ensures purity and freshness. Ageing on fine lees with regular batonnage over three months gives the wine additional body and texture.The Eikendal Janina Unwooded Chardonnay is the perfect accompaniment to light dishes and seafood. The Mulderbosch Chardonnay from Stellenbosch is an accessible yet stylish representative of its grape variety. The grapes come from various sites in the region and bring the typical combination of freshness and ripe fruit to the glass for which South African Chardonnay is prized.Lively citrus notes dominate the nose, reminiscent of orange peel and a hint of lemon blossom. There are also hints of stone fruit and subtle nuances of vanilla and toffee, which give the white wine a pleasant aromatic depth. On the palate, the Chardonnay is balanced and fresh, with a subtle creaminess and a well-integrated structure. The fruit always remains clearly in the foreground and is harmoniously complemented by a moderate use of wood.The wine is matured partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in wooden barrels, with a small proportion of new wood being used. Maturation on the fine lees also ensures a fine texture and a little more complexity without making the wine appear too heavy. This pure Chardonnay was matured for 9 months in 300-liter oak barrels.
